Job Specification - Mechanical Engineer (Plant Maintenance & Projects)
Reporting Line
- Reports directly to the Engineering Manager
- Based at a large industrial manufacturing site
Purpose of the Role
- To support plant maintenance operations and deliver large-scale plant improvement projects
- To improve plant availability, safety, and operational performance
Key Responsibilities
Plant Maintenance
- Work as part of a multi-disciplinary maintenance team
- Take responsibility for a designated plant process area
- Ensure effective preventative and predictive maintenance programmes are in place
- Plan and manage major plant shutdowns and overhauls
- Manage contractors on specific maintenance jobs and projects
- Troubleshoot and resolve plant maintenance issues
- Drive continuous improvement in safety and environmental standards
Large-Scale Plant Improvement Projects
- Scope and evaluate projects that deliver increased business returns
- Manage projects from construction through to installation
- Oversee commissioning and handover of new plant and equipment
Candidate Profile
Essential / Preferred
- Qualification in Mechanical Engineering or a related discipline
- Knowledge of health and safety requirements in a heavy industrial environment
- Minimum of 5 years' experience in a similar engineering role
- Strong technical capability with sound commercial awareness
- Excellent communication, negotiation, and interpersonal skills
- High level of IT proficiency (MS Office, AutoCAD)
- Strong attention to detail and ability to work independently
- Proven ability to meet project deadlines

- Demonstrated track record of contributing to improved plant performance and business outcomes
