We are currently recruiting for a Legal Counsel for our tech client based in Dublin 2. It's a fully onsite role for 12 months initially (with view to permanency) offering a competitive package.
ROLE OVERVIEW
The scope of this legal role will encompass commercial, corporate, intellectual property, employment, and compliance matters arising from our Research and Development work in Ireland. This is an opportunity to work in a global company in cutting-edge, multi-national technological space.
We are open to experienced Legal Executives, existing In-house Lawyers, and private practice Solicitors (with previous secondment/in-house experience or a demonstrable commercial outlook in their working practice). The selected candidate will work under the Head of Legal team.
This role is to support the client across a broad range of commercial, intellectual property and compliance matters in relation to its Research and Development offices in Ireland. The selected candidate will be able to provide practical legal advice to business units and management on all legal issues arising from research, development, intellectual property activities in Ireland as well supporting internal compliance, staff training and ad hoc legal matters.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
* Advise the business on a full range of contractual/transactional issues ranging from procurement to research partnerships, and miscellaneous agreements regarding business development.
* Responsibility for reviewing and drafting general commercial contracts and other documents, including NDAs, master service agreements, master procurement agreements, terms and conditions, intellectual property related agreements and real estate-related agreements;
* Support the business with key areas of statutory compliance including anti-bribery, data protection and export control.
* Conduct training sessions for non-legal staff on compliance issues and other legal risk areas.
* Work with Head of Legal and as part of the European legal team to identify issues of regional importance and provide solutions for the research centres across Ireland and EU.
* Horizon-scanning and advising management on upcoming changes in the law or other external business risks which may impact the client's operations in Ireland.
REQUIREMENTS
* Qualified solicitor/lawyer with solid knowledge of Irish law
* Excellent legal drafting skills - ability to work with existing templates and to create bespoke wording/documents as required by the business.
* Experienced Legal Executive or a Solicitor with experience either in a law firm in Ireland or in a relevant in-house role at a recognised company/institution.
* Ability to comprehend legal issues and to explain the issues in plain English without legal jargon to non-legal staff.
* Strong experience with commercial law/contracts and employment law together with related areas of statutory compliance.
* Demonstrable knowledge of intellectual property law and data privacy issues.
* An ability to work closely with a variety of stakeholders on a local and global basis to develop strong working relationships.
* Strong inter-personal skills and ability to work in multi-national and multi-cultural environment.
* Pragmatic, with a commercial outlook and an understanding of business needs.
* Good academic qualifications from a top tier university.
* Ability to work under pressure and to make sound decisions.
* Ability to communicate well.
* Ability to work unsupervised and as part of a team
* Excellent planning, attention to detail, organisational and time management skills with the ability to work to tight time schedules, prioritising and handling conflicting demands
PREFERED
* Previous experience of an in-house environment
* Experience working on cross-border transactions
* Knowledge of employment law and/or real estate issues
* Familiarity with research projects between academia and industry - an understanding of university decision-making and stakeholder processes
* Experience working on intellectual property matters
* Experience of working with Irish Government on export control and other trade compliance issues
