Description
AWS Infrastructure Services owns the design, planning, delivery, and operation of all AWS global infrastructure. We support all AWS data centers and the servers, storage, networking, power, and cooling equipment that keep our customers continuously connected to the innovation they rely on. You will join a diverse team of software, hardware, network engineers, supply‑chain specialists, security experts, operations managers and other roles, collaborating across AWS to deliver the highest safety and security standards while providing capacity at the lowest possible cost. AWS Shield is hiring Software Development Engineers for its Distributed Denial of Service (DDoS) Response Team to drive security and stability of the network and innovate automation in operations. The ideal candidate has a proven track record of technical leadership, autonomy, and an “automation first” mindset, with in‑depth knowledge of software development and/or security, strong communication skills, and a passion for emerging technologies.
Key Job Responsibilities
Build state‑of‑the‑art incident response systems
Work with Amazon customers and service teams to diagnose and respond to ongoing events
Partner with Amazon organizations to proactively assess DDoS resilience and drive improvements
Improve automated detection and mitigation systems based on operational learnings
Advise leadership on new trends and ways to improve DDoS resilience
Contribute to hiring and development of team members
Participate in the team’s on‑call rotation
Basic Qualifications
Experience building complex software systems delivered to customers
Experience with full software development life cycle including coding standards, reviews, source control, build, testing, and operations
Experience designing or architecting reliable and scalable systems or professional, non‑internship software development
Experience programming in at least one language, or debugging, profiling, and implementing best engineering practices in large‑scale systems
Bachelor’s degree or equivalent in a related field
Preferred Qualifications
Recent full software development life cycle experience (last 3 years) including coding standards, reviews, source control, builds, testing, and operations
Bachelor’s degree in computer science or equivalent
Knowledge of networking protocols (HTTP(S), DNS, TCP/IP)
Knowledge of network hardware and packet forwarding architectures
Experience working in a fast‑paced, rapidly changing or international environment
Strong written and verbal English communication skills
