The Generation Engineering department in ESB Engineering and Major Projects is the centre of engineering for ESB’s generation businesses and provides consultancy services in generation technology for external and international clients. This includes optimising the long-term performance of ESB’s Generation Assets through process performance optimisation and portfolio long term asset management, as well as continuously driving improvements in overhaul management, safety, technical and engineering standards, and the delivery of new power plant projects as part of the ESB Net Zero by 2040 Strategy.
The “Pressure Parts & Renewable Gases” team within Generation Engineering will lead the support for these objectives, and wider requirements within the ESB Group. The team specifically provides the engineering and asset management services for boiler plant and water / steam cycle pressure parts associated with Generation and Trading’s portfolio fleet. These Power Plant Assets typically include.
Watertube Boilers
Heat Recovery Steam Generator (HRSG)
Shell Boilers
Balance of Plant Pressure Vessels
The team is also responsible for the development of a Centre of Engineering Excellence for Renewable Gases, particularly in relation to hydrogen and biomethane.
Key Responsibilities
Asset Management Duties associated with assigned Power Plant Assets.
* Technical Review of the condition assessment documents that detail the history and current integrity of the assigned Power Plant Assets. Technical Review Reports may require to be developed.
* Ongoing review of operational data from assigned Power Plant Assets. Quarterly review reports should be developed, and results updated to the condition assessment documents.
* Agree and Develop appropriate Inspection and Test Plans (ITP) associated with the assigned Power Plant Assets in advance of Power Plant Outage Projects
* Keep abreast of the Boiler and Pressure Vessel Statutory Examination requirements associated with the assigned Power Plant Assets and consider same in the asset management duties of those assets. Support the Power Plant Outage Project Engineers and Managers with any Statutory Examination queries.
* Carry out general inspections of the assigned Power Plant Assets during planned and unplanned outages. Assist in the on-site identification of pressure components that have been selected for inspection as part of the ITP.
* Review Power Plant outage examination, inspection and testing reports. Outage Summary Reports may require to be developed.
* Provide technical support to Power Plant Outage Project Engineers and Managers to develop Technical Specifications associated with the repair or modification associated with assigned Power Plant Assets.
* Complete the condition assessment documentation of the assigned Power Plant Assets
* Owners Engineer duties associated with the repair, modification or construction of Power Plant Assets
Actively participate in the upskilling and development necessary to ensure the required technical knowledge of;
* Pressure equipment associated with hydrogen pressure systems.
* Pressure equipment associated with Watertube boilers / Heat Recovery Steam Generators / Shell Boilers and non fired pressure vessels
* Pressure Equipment compliance with associated codes, standards, regulations and directives.
* Actively participate in the development and maintenance of the ESB EMP Generation Engineering Quality Management System, as well asDevelop and maintain relevant ESB Standards and Guidance Documents as required.
Participate in the ESB Generation and Trading Risk Based Internal Auditing Process.
Support all ESB Business Units including ESB Generation and Trading, ESB Networks, ESB International and ESB Smart Energy Services in the pressure equipment discipline as required.
Knowledge / Skills / Experience
* 5 Years Power Plant Operational and / or Asset Management experience
* Previous Boiler & Pressure Vessel Examination / Inspection Experience
* Pressure Equipment Repair / Fabrication Experience
* Knowledge of welding technology and activities associated with the repair and fabrication of pressure equipment.
* Knowledge of Destructive and Non Destructive Testing Techniques associated with the testing and inspection of pressure equipment.
* Knowledge or experienced in the following Regulations and Codes / Standards
* Safety, Health & Welfare at Work (General Applications) Regulations 2007 – Part 10 Pressure Systems
* Pressure Systems Safety Regulations (PSSR) - (UK and Northern Ireland)
* EN 12952 / EN 12953 / EN 13445 / PD5500 / EN 13480
* ASME I / ASME VIII
Qualification
* A 3rd Level qualification in engineering, or equivalent work experience in the pressure plant equipment industry is essential
Location
The position is based in ESB Engineering & Major Project Offices in Dublin Airport Central or Eastgate, Little Island, Cork.
The successful candidate may combine remote / smart working within the jurisdiction, with attendance at base (Engineering & Major Projects Office Dublin or East Gate, Little Island, Cork) for in-person collaboration, the frequency of which is agreed with the manager and subject to ongoing review.
