Job Title: Paediatric Staff Nurse PACU Department: PACU Reports to: Nurse Manager PACU Date 2026 Overall Purpose of Job We will provide exceptional patient care in an environment where quality, respect, caring, and compassion are at the centre of all that we do. The Paediatric Clinical Coordinator Recovery will be responsible for overseeing the staff and care provided to children and their families on a day to day basis. Key Responsibilities and Deliverables The Paediatric Clinical Coordinator for the Recovery Unit is accountable for the management of all nursing services within the Recovery Unit. The appointee is accountable to the Manager of the Recovery Unit, with a dotted line to the Paediatric Clinical Operations Manager. He/she will co-ordinate and provide effective leadership within a multidisciplinary team. The Paediatric Clinical Coordinator will encompass a clinical and managerial workload and educational focus within the team.He/she will facilitate and deliver quality patient care by overseeing the effective and efficient management of resources; demonstrating professional leadership and clinical expertise.He/she will advance current nursing practice in accordance with the Nursing & Midwifery Board of Ireland (NMBI) codes and guidelines. The Paediatric Clinical Coordinator will support and direct the professional development of all nursing and ancillary staff within the department in line with current and future service demands and advances within the Recovery Unit. He/she will liaise with the Pain Management Service regarding patient care needs. The Paediatric Clinical Coordinator for the Recovery Unit will manage the day to day operational departmental issues as appointed. In the absence of the Recovery Unit Coordinator the Paediatric Clinical Coordinator will be expected to deputise and oversee the adult and paediatric patient flow through the Department. The Coordinator will promote a safe work environment that demonstrates caring by accessibility of safe effective equipment and adequate supplies. Identify appropriate internal controls for department; provides mechanisms to monitor and enforce compliance. Participate in the reporting of patient safety, quality and educational processes within the Hospital. Communication and Accountability Utilise effective time management skills. Participate in department problem solving and improvement of systems. Adhere to Standard Precautions as appropriate. The use of protective barriers as appropriate. Handling and disposing of infectious waste appropriately. Hand hygiene as appropriate. Interrelationships Maintain good working relationships with other departments and with physicians, patients, families and outside agencies. Communicate during the shift with the Recovery Manager and other Coordinators as required or appropriate. Demonstrate the ability to delegate tasks and responsibilities. Participate in ongoing consultation and collaboration with physicians and other care providers to maximise patient outcomes and unit specific goals. Participate in unit-based and interdepartmental QI activities. Demonstrate willingness to assist co-workers whenever needed. Other Duties and Responsibilities Utilise effective time management skills. Maintain professional appearance and dress code. Comply with guidelines for absence or tardiness. Attend unit staff meetings, reads email and other postings. Attend all required in-services and mandatory educational classes as needed. All employees are expected to remain flexible to meet the needs of the Hospital, which may include floating to other departments to assist as the patient needs fluctuate. Qualifications NMBI Registered Childrens Nurse licence in good standing. Or NMBI Registered General Nurse licence in good standing with more than 2 years Paediatric experience. Experience 1 year PACU experience preferred. Job Specific Competencies and Knowledge Teamwork Demonstrate ability to work as part of a multi-disciplinary team. Demonstrate an understanding of change management Demonstrate the ability to communicate effectively with family and child as appropriate. Planning and Organising Demonstrate evidence of effective planning, organising and time management skills Demonstrate flexible approach to internal rotations, rostering e.g. night duty, theatre on call, attitude to work Ensures all the equipments/area is prepared and set up for paediatric patients to be accepted to a ward Knowledge Demonstrate evidence of recent and relevant experience in the specialised area and in an acute hospital setting. Demonstrate knowledge of new developments in specialised area. Demonstrate knowledge of national strategies where appropriate to nursing care Effectively assesses paediatric patients level of pain using the appropriate pain scales and follows procedure for administration of pain relief (as per hospital policy) at all Is aware of and has read the Child Protection Policy and will abide by same. Patient & Customer Focus Demonstrate a focus on quality Demonstrate evidence of ability to empathise with and treat patients, relatives and colleagues with dignity and respect. Personal Competencies All posts in Beacon Hospital require a high level of flexibility to ensure the delivery of an effective and efficient service. Therefore, the post holder will be required to demonstrate flexibility as and when required by their manager or hospital management.
