Job Summary:

Join PayPal's Global Financial Crimes & Consumer Protections (GFC&CP) team

You will be a part of PayPal's GFC&CP team tasked with ensuring that activity within the PayPal system is compliant with Anti-Money Laundering regulations, as well as PayPal's Acceptable Use Policy (AUP). PayPal's AUP dictates the type of commerce activity that PayPal permits its users to engage in on the company's platform. You will also assess the risks to PayPal of doing business with merchants in high-risk industries, product categories and jurisdictions.? You will be expected to be an AML subject matter expert, with specific emphasis on the creation, monitoring, and timely delivery of suspicious activity reports, suspicious transaction reports, and other similar reports to global regulators on a daily basis. In the preparation of these reports, you will exercise independent judgment and discretion handling highly sensitive casework.

In this role, you will investigate customer activity across multiple platforms to ensure that it falls within acceptable parameters established by global regulatory governing bodies. Your efforts will be in accordance to PayPal's Ethics and Compliance Standards. You will be tasked with ensuring that PayPal implements the appropriate monitoring and controls of customer activity to ensure that PayPal is satisfying its obligations to the appropriate regulatory authorities. You will need to demonstrate the ability to understand opposing points of view on highly complex issues and to negotiate and integrate different viewpoints with all levels of GFC&CP leadership. You may be expected to interact with peers and financial crimes risk professionals, all levels of management, and other internal or external constituents in order to represent reasoning of case disposition.

It will be critical for you to stay current with policy changes and play an active part to enhance existing processes and controls. You will need to be able to effectively communicate and maintain utmost professionalism in your interaction with our customers and partners. Compliance Analysts will be subject to material, which may be sensitive and/or offensive in performing the essential job duties of this position.
Job Description:
We're hiring a Japanese speaking Compliance Analyst

What you'll do:
As a Compliance Analyst, you'll play a key role in protecting the integrity of our platform by identifying and investigating potentially suspicious or illegal activity. You'll work across complex datasets and regulatory frameworks to help ensure we meet our global compliance obligations.

Your day-to-day responsibilities will include:
Applying analytical techniques to complex data sets to develop well-reasoned recommendations for reporting cases to global regulatory authorities.

Conducting thorough, end-to-end reviews of potentially suspicious or illegal financial activity.

Performing time-sensitive, detailed analyses of potential Anti-Money Laundering (AML) or suspicious activity cases across multiple jurisdictions.

Assessing customer profiles and large volumes of transaction data to verify activity aligns with expectations, including adherence to the Acceptable Use Policy and Know Your Customer (KYC) standards.

Leveraging internal data and open-source tools to investigate potentially illicit behavior and support case decisions.

Documenting findings clearly and concisely in both manual and automated case management systems, and preparing internal reports as needed.

Exercising sound judgment and making informed decisions or recommendations based on investigation outcomes.

What you'll need to bring:
Language Proficiency:Exceptional command of bothJapaneseandEnglish, with strong understanding of grammar, syntax, and punctuation in both languages.

Education:A Bachelor's degree in Business, Finance, Law, Criminal Justice, or a related field is preferred.

Investigative Experience:Prior experience conducting research and investigations in areas such as Fraud, Anti-Money Laundering (AML), Customer Due Diligence (CDD), or Enhanced Due Diligence (EDD).

Analytical Writing:Ability to distill complex information and data into clear, concise, and logically structured written narratives that highlight key findings.

Technical Skills:Proficiency in Microsoft Excel, including use of formulas, pivot tables, conditional formatting, and other tools to analyze large data sets and support investigative conclusions.

Time Management:Strong organizational skills and dependability to meet productivity goals and deadlines in a fast-paced environment.

Content Review:Willingness and ability to assess potentially sensitive or offensive material objectively and make impartial, fact-based decisions.

Critical Thinking:Capable of evaluating opposing viewpoints on complex issues and making sound, risk-based decisions supported by available evidence.

Collaboration:Ability to engage with peers, financial crime professionals, management, and cross-functional teams to communicate case outcomes and investigative rationale effectively.

Adaptability:Openness to feedback and commitment to continuous improvement in investigative practices.
