Head of External Reporting and Finance IT Systems - Public Sector
Senior Manager - Accountancy & Finance at Morgan McKinley. Brilliant opportunity for a senior finance professional to join a large Public Sector body as Head of External Reporting & Finance IT Systems.
Reporting to the Chief Financial Officer, this is a significant role within the Finance Department and will lead a team of professionals responsible for the production of the annual consolidated statutory financial statements, managing the smooth conduct of the annual audit and overseeing the development of Finance IT Systems.
Responsibilities
* Provide leadership across External Financial Reporting and Financial IT Systems to ensure compliance, efficiency, and innovation.
* Lead the preparation of statutory financial statements in accordance with FRS 102 and public sector financial requirements.
* Act as primary contact for external auditors.
* Ensure integrity of consolidated accounts.
* Oversee policy development in financial reporting and maintain all accounting policies and technical documentation.
* Oversee the strategic development of the Financial IT Systems.
* Drive forward the "Digital First" agenda for Finance, enabling data automation, real-time reporting, and enhanced analytics capabilities.
* Ensure optimal configuration, integration, and use of ERP systems.
* Support delivery of self-service models, training, and system guidance for all users.
* Identify and implement financial systems improvements and change initiatives.
* Create an accountable, high-performing work environment with clear goals, support, and follow-through.
Requirements
* Qualified accountant with 10+ years PQE.
* Experience working in large and complex organisations.
* Extensive experience in statutory financial reporting and external audit.
* Extensive experience of preparing and presenting financial information to high-level governance structures including Audit & Risk Committees and Boards.
* Experience in managing or implementing large-scale financial systems or ERP platforms.
* At least five years' experience of managing qualified accountants in large and complex organisations with a range of senior internal and external stakeholders.
