Amazon Web Services is hiring a Product Design Electrical Engineer for our Electrical Products and Services Engineering team. The product engineering team is part of a global engineering organization responsible for the design and continuous innovation of products used within our rapidly expanding data center footprint.
Key Job Responsibilities
* Work with internal partner teams to solicit customer input and define design requirements for product design.
* Lead new product design, development and qualification of critical electrical power distribution equipment for AWS datacenters including LV and MV switchgear, power distribution cabinets and panels.
* Develop Capex and Opex spending budgets taking into account development costs with vendors, prototyping needs, testing and specialized tooling requirements.
* Work with global suppliers and manufacturers to specify appropriate electrical equipment and components, ensuring tier 2-3 supply chain resiliency.
* Ensure compliance with UL, CSA, IEC and federal, state and municipal requirements and building codes across different countries through appropriate levels of testing.
* Validate design through prototype, pre‑production and first‑of‑kind builds, conducting DFx and value engineering analysis through each step and updating design and documentation.
* Work with field engineering and commissioning teams to properly test and validate installation, operation, and performance of electrical products.
* Provide support for manufacturing activities for the new products on concurrent projects in multiple geographical locations.
* Be a leader within the product development team as well as within internal and external teams that support the data center.
Location & Travel
The role will be located in Dublin, Ireland. Travel will be necessary but shouldn’t be more than 30%. International support will be part of the job, and some international travel may be necessary.
Basic Qualifications
* 8+ years leading new product design, development, product certification and manufacturing support of Low Voltage (LV) distribution products with focus on switchgear, switchboards and panelboards.
* Able to interpret electric code NEC, NFPA, UL891, UL508, UL1066, UL1558, ANSI C37, and other IEC codes.
* Demonstrated track record of design documentation creation including 3D models, submittals, assembly and part drawings and ingestion into product lifecycle tools and mechanisms.
* Experience validating design through prototype builds, pre‑production builds and first‑of‑kind builds, conducting DFx and value engineering analysis through each step and updating design and documentation.
Preferred Qualifications
* Experience performing complex business case analysis to justify technical decisions and presenting the justification to management in a high‑level review.
* Experience with product level validation testing (Thermal, EMC/EMI, Shock, Cycle Testing, etc.).
* Knowledge of data center infrastructure design, operations, or delivery.
* Experience carrying new design concepts through exploration, development, and into deployment or mass production.
* Demonstrated indirect leadership skills of junior engineers through successful new product launches.
