Job Purpose
Reporting to the Environmental & Health and Safety Manager, the Health & Safety Officer will support day‑to‑day management and development of health and safety systems. The role ensures statutory compliance, drives continuous improvement, and promotes a culture of excellence and inclusion across all O'Brien Fine Foods sites in Ireland.
Responsibilities
* Support the Environmental Health & Safety Manager with the development, implementation, and maintenance of Health & Safety Management Systems, including ISO 40001 and 50001.
* Provide advice, information, and guidance on health and safety matters to internal stakeholders, and support consultation processes including Safety Committees and Safety Representatives.
* Act as an ambassador to promote a positive health and safety culture throughout the organisation.
* Coordinate and deliver health and safety training—company requirements, procedures, new legal requirements, inductions, etc.
* Compile accident and investigation reports and data to support accident prevention and safety initiatives.
* Conduct regular audits and risk assessments of work areas, operations, and systems; monitor and support corrective and preventative actions nationally.
* Support and coordinate Emergency Plans, evacuation procedures, and drills.
* Prepare health and safety reports and metrics for the Group Health and Safety Manager.
* Maintain and administer health and safety software systems for document control, auditing, and incident reporting.
* Assist the operational team with additional tasks and projects as required.
Education & Experience
* Third‑level qualification in Health & Safety or a recognised safety qualification (PGDip/NEBOSH Dip).
* Membership of IOSH at Corporate level (or progressing toward it) or equivalent.
* At least 3‑5 years of experience as a Health & Safety Officer; experience in a healthcare setting is an advantage.
Key Qualifications
* Experience in risk assessment and a strong understanding of Irish and EU health and safety legal requirements.
* Competent auditor and training experience.
* Enthusiastic individual with an interest in driving change within a dynamic team.
* Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, capable of delivering training and interacting confidently with employees at all levels.
* A self‑starter with proven initiative, problem‑solving skills, and an innovative mindset.
* Excellent organisational skills, able to manage multiple tasks and priorities.
* Analytical mindset to identify and assess risks and implement appropriate control measures.
* Ability to work independently and collaboratively in cross‑functional team environments.
