Overview of role
Bon Secours Radiotherapy, UPMC Hillman Cancer Centre Cork is hiring a Clinical Specialist Radiation Therapist on a permanent, full‑time contract. The Clinical Specialist Radiation Therapist, as a member of the multi-disciplinary team, is responsible for the preparation and treatment of patients with a cancer diagnosis or other benign conditions requiring radiotherapy, providing psychosocial support throughout the course of treatment. The role involves justification of pre‑treatment imaging and accurate treatment delivery. The Clinical Specialist must adhere to and implement all radiation safety regulations, assess the quality of their own work continuously, and engage in continuous professional development in line with the state registration guidelines of the CORU. They must also encourage and monitor other members of the radiotherapy team to do the same and possess strong leadership and management skills to efficiently manage workflow within their designated clinical area.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities

Maintains an atmosphere of caring, concern and support for patients, visitors, medical staff and co‑workers.
Delivers prescribed radiotherapy treatment according to the treatment plan.
Ensures safety in patient care through consistent practice of departmental procedures and reports any deviations to the physics team.
Documents treatment records accurately to assure quality of delivery.
Acquires, interprets and evaluates electronic images, implementing required changes in accordance with departmental procedures; explains procedures to patients and families and refers clinical questions to appropriate personnel.
Performs CT simulation and markups, selecting appropriate immobilisation and administering oral/IV contrast as instructed, measuring for use during treatment calculation and inputting data into ARIA.
Assists in orienting and supervising students during clinical rotations and evaluates student performance.
Provides support for treatment‑related procedures and assists at other UPMC Ireland locations as needed.
Communicates effectively to explain procedures, respond to patient concerns, observe reactions, and report critical information to staff. Reinforces patient education and indicates non‑compliance to medical/nursing staff.
Implements and documents daily and weekly QA activity for assigned equipment, notifying physics immediately of out‑of‑range findings and participating in QA meetings.
Attends multidisciplinary team meetings for patient care coordination.
Completes the daily treatment schedule, maintains accurate records of procedures, billing information and codes.
Maintains a safe, orderly treatment room.
Provides on‑call coverage for emergency patient treatment.
Oversees day‑to‑day operation of treatment units and CT unit, ensuring smooth daily lists and adequate skill/grade coverage.
Works alongside junior staff, makes decisions and takes responsibility for patient treatment decisions.
Trains and supervises junior radiotherapy staff, ensuring competencies across areas.
Participates in individual performance review and staff development implementation.
Assists the Clinical Specialist team in developing and implementing new technology and procedures, providing leadership for change management.
Maintains familiarity with administrative tasks such as billing, scheduling and statistical reporting, covering these tasks as necessary.
Ensures continuous professional development in line with CORU guidelines.

Qualifications

Completion of a qualification in Radiation Therapy recognised by the Radiographers Registration Board (CORU).
Maintain annual registration with CORU.

Experience

Minimum of 6 years full‑time (or aggregate) post‑qualification clinical experience.

Salary
EUR 71,755.10 – 80,918.80 per annum based on a 35‑hour week.
