We have an excellent opportunity at Mediolanum to join our Technology Team as Head of Data Governance.Reporting to the Chief Data Officer, the Head of Data Governance will lead the development and implementation of data governance strategies and frameworks, and will own the operating model within Mediolanum Irish Operations. This role is pivotal in ensuring that data is treated as a critical asset, with a strong focus on data quality, data acquisition, data loss prevention, data classification, master data management, and the management of business data stewards.The successful candidate will develop and oversee a mature Data Governance programme and will work closely with various departments to establish and enhance data governance policies, standards, and practices that support the firm’s business objectives and regulatory requirements.Principal Duties of the position, including but not limited to:Enhance and implement a comprehensive data governance strategy that aligns with the firm’s business and strategic goals, and regulatory requirements.Establish new and enhance existing data governance frameworks, policies, and standards to ensure data integrity, quality, and security.Define data quality standards and metrics and oversee a development framework leveraging a best-in-class data model empowered by Snowflake Cortex (AI/LLM).Oversee data quality assessments and remediation efforts to ensure high data accuracy and reliability, using cloud-based technologies (Snowflake, Informatica, Jira) and LLMs.Oversee data acquisition processes, ensuring data is sourced, validated, and integrated effectively into a governed data warehouse (Snowflake).Work with external data providers and internal stakeholders (Investments, Product, Risk, and Internal Technology teams) to ensure data acquisition aligns with business needs.Enhance and implement a master data management strategy to ensure consistency, accuracy, and control of key business data.Oversee the Master Data Management application and ensure governance of all master data entities, maintaining alignment with data governance standards.Lead and manage a team of business data stewards to ensure data governance policies and practices are implemented effectively. Provide guidance and support to data stewards on their roles and responsibilities.Lead the Data Governance working group of senior leaders to align strategy, drive adoption, and ensure effective oversight of enterprise data governance initiatives.Implement data loss prevention strategies and technologies to protect sensitive data from unauthorized access and breaches.Ensure compliance with relevant data protection regulations and industry standards.Lead and mentor a team of data operations, data quality, and quality assurance (QA) engineers aligned with IT development squads.Skills and Competencies:Excellent leadership, communication, and stakeholder management skills.Ability to work collaboratively in a fast-paced, dynamic environment.Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.Qualifications and Experience:Bachelor’s degree in Data Management, IT, Computer Science, Business Administration, or a related discipline.Proven experience in data governance, data management, or a related role within financial services (e.g., asset management, funds, capital markets, and financial data providers).Knowledge of relevant regulations (e.g., GDPR, PRIIPs, MiFID II/MiFIR) and industry standards.Strong understanding of data governance frameworks, data quality management, data acquisition processes, data loss prevention, data classification, and master data management, including the management of business data stewards.Experience with SQL and data governance platforms is advantageous (e.g., Snowflake, Informatica, or similar).Certification in data governance or data management is preferred (e.g., CDMP, DGSP).
