Position Overview
The Cloud Operations Engineer (Contractor) is responsible for supporting complex Cloud solutions across Azure, AWS, and GCP. The role involves managing Cloud resources, capacity planning, service optimization, financial governance, monitoring, and request fulfillment. Candidates should have experience in Cloud engineering or support, particularly in creating and updating infrastructure as code templates.
Role Objectives
This role handles the operational support of Cloud platforms, primarily Azure, across all SMBC Group entities in the Americas and EMEA. It requires expertise in Microsoft Azure operations engineering.
1. Improve operational efficiencies related to Cloud resource delivery, access management, and security.
2. Support production workloads in a multi-Cloud environment, including monitoring, patching, backup, and restoration.
3. Deliver Cloud infrastructure for partner solutions.
4. Develop and support automation and infrastructure as code solutions using PowerShell, Azure DevOps, Ansible, and other approved platforms.
5. Debug and troubleshoot Databricks notebooks, compute resources, SQL warehouses, and Data Factory pipelines.
6. Manage version control and SDLC workflows using tools like GitHub and Azure DevOps.
7. Understand and troubleshoot application infrastructure, databases, networking, and DNS.
8. Work with data analytics tools such as Databricks and Data Factory.
9. Assist with cloud migrations, ensuring best practices and compliance with standards.
10. Implement monitoring systems for event monitoring, alerting, and metrics.
11. Identify opportunities to improve and simplify infrastructure and processes.
12. Collaborate with support teams and vendors for system integration and knowledge sharing.
13. Ensure proper documentation and handover of systems for 24/7 support.
Qualifications and Skills
Proficiency in Cloud services (IaaS, PaaS, SaaS) from providers like Azure and AWS; experience with infrastructure as code (Terraform, ARM, Bicep, CloudFormation); operational knowledge of Azure or AWS; monitoring tools (Azure Monitor, Log Analytics, CloudWatch, etc.); networking concepts; version control strategies; SDLC processes; scripting skills (PowerShell, etc.); configuration management tools (Ansible); communication skills; troubleshooting abilities; and a customer service mindset. Familiarity with Atlassian Suite (Jira, Confluence) is a plus.
