Clinical Nurse Specialist – Medical Oncology (UPMC Whitfield Hospital, Waterford, Ireland)
This role supports patients with cancer undergoing systemic anti‑cancer therapy (SACT). The CNS works with multidisciplinary teams to deliver evidence‑based care, provide education to patients and families, manage clinical databases, contribute to audits and research, and lead service improvements.
Key Responsibilities
* Provide specialist nursing service for patients newly diagnosed with cancer.
* Conduct comprehensive physical, psychological, social and spiritual assessments; develop and implement care plans in partnership with MDT members.
* Monitor treatment response, amend care plans, and coordinate investigations, therapies and follow‑up.
* Offer patient education and support; promote self‑management and symptom control strategies.
* Participate in medication reconciliation and poly‑pharmacy management.
* Lead and coordinate nurse‑led clinics; maintain accurate records, clinical databases and survivorship data.
* Engage in case reviews, advisory roles and advocacy for patients and families.
* Contribute to the design, delivery and evaluation of educational programmes and resources.
* Lead audit and research projects; analyse outcomes, disseminate evidence and apply findings to service improvement.
* Maintain compliance with quality, risk and safety policies, including PPPGs, HSE standards and local procedures.
Qualifications & Experience
* Registered nurse on the National Register of Nurses and Midwives (Ireland) or eligible for registration.
* Completion of a post‑registration degree equivalent to Level 8 or higher in Cancer Nursing, or relevant university qualification with Level 8 credits.
* Minimum of 5 years post‑registration full‑time experience in Cancer Nursing.
* Evidence of continuing professional development and a personal development plan.
* Live annual registration with the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Ireland.

* Advocacy skills and capacity to influence MDT decision‑making.
* Capability to manage time, caseload and service improvements.
* Proficiency in health information systems, data collection and audit tools.
