OverviewClinical Nurse Specialist (CNS) / Clinical Midwife Specialist (CMS) - UltrasonographyLocation: Midland Regional Hospital Portlaoise. There is currently one permanent, whole-time Clinical Nurse Specialist / Clinical Midwife Specialist - Ultrasonography vacancy available in the Early Pregnancy Unit, Maternity Services in the Midland Regional Hospital Portlaoise. Email: hermaye.paza@hse.ie | Tel: 087 125 9086Purpose of the PostTo provide foetal assessment / ultrasonography services to women at Midland Regional Hospital Portlaoise. The successful candidate will work as a key member of the multidisciplinary team, delivering a woman-centred quality service. The role encompasses assessment, planning, delivery and evaluation of care for patients and their partners / families.Role FrameworkThe CNS/CMS – Ultrasonography will work in line with the five core concepts of the role in the Framework for the Establishment of Clinical Nurse / Midwife Specialist Posts, NCNM 2008.The role will initially focus on service users who are pregnant women or women with gynaecology problems. The concepts are:Clinical focus (direct and indirect care)Service user / client advocacyEducation and trainingAudit and researchConsultancy (including leadership in clinical practice)Eligibility Criteria, Qualifications and/or ExperienceStatutory Registration, Professional Qualifications, Experience, etc.Be a registered nurse / midwife on the active Register of Nurses and Midwives held by the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Ireland (NMBI) or be eligible to be registered.Be registered in the division(s) of the NMBI relevant to the application, or be entitled to be registered in that division.In exceptional circumstances, be registered in another division of the register of Nurses and Midwives (case by case basis).Have a minimum of 1 year’s post-registration full-time experience in the division of the register in which the application is being made (or an aggregate of 1 year full-time experience).Have a minimum of 1 year’s experience in the specialist area of Obstetric Ultrasonography.Have completed a post-registration programme of study that certifies a QQI NFQ Level 9 or higher award relevant to the specialist area of care (equivalent to 60 ECTS or above) or provide evidence from a Higher Education Institute confirming the equivalent standard, in line with NCNM 4th edition (2008).If QQI NFQ Level 9 qualification is not held, be supported to undertake the required postgraduate education at Level 9, and demonstrate continuing professional development (CPD) relevant to the specialist area or be supported to obtain the required CPD.Demonstrate CPD relevant to the specialist area.Evidence of the ability to practice safely and effectively within scope of practice.Note 1: For Nurses / Midwives with a level 8 qualification in Obstetric Ultrasound, this qualification will be recognised up to September 2026.Candidates must possess the requisite knowledge and ability, including suitability, clinical, leadership, managerial and administrative capacity for the duties of the role.Annual Registration: Practitioners must maintain live annual registration in the appropriate NMBI division. Please note that appointment and continuation in posts requiring statutory registration depend on maintaining annual registration via PSAC.Post Specific RequirementsDemonstrate depth and breadth of Nursing / Midwifery experience in Obstetric Ultrasound and Gynaecology as relevant to the role.Undertake, or agree to undertake, Nurse Prescribing of Medicinal Products Certificate.Undertake, or agree to undertake, Nurse Prescribing of Ionising Radiation Certificate.Formally apply for entry onto the Interim ONMS Clinical Nurse Specialist / Clinical Midwife Specialist database (until transfer to permanent location).
