Overview
AWS is introducing the inaugural European Sovereign Cloud (ESC). We are seeking experienced systems engineers with a strong background in automation and operations to join the AWS Managed Operations team. You will help build and lead operations and development teams delivering high-availability AWS services (EC2, S3, Dynamo, Lambda, Bedrock) for EU customers.
Responsibilities include overseeing the ESC launch in 2025, collaborating with global AWS teams, influencing the evolution of AWS services and technology, and improving availability, reliability, latency, performance, and efficiency. You may participate in on-call rotations to resolve incidents outside of standard hours.
The ESC is part of AWS Utility Computing (UC). UC provides innovations across compute, storage, databases, IoT, platform, and productivity apps. Managed Operations engineers support customers needing specialized security solutions for AWS cloud services.

Responsibilities
* Oversee the launch of the European Sovereign Cloud (ESC) and work with global AWS teams.
* Collaborate with technology leaders to enhance day-to-day operations and improve service metrics (availability, reliability, latency, performance, efficiency).
* Participate in 24x7 on-call rotations to resolve incidents and ensure operational resilience.
* Contribute to change management documents and address operational backlog.
* Develop and test scripts to improve workflows and provide practical solutions.
* Educate service teams about the European Sovereign Cloud and share knowledge to foster mutual understanding.
Required Qualifications
* National of an EU member state and reside in the EU to operate the ESC.
* Demonstrated expertise in systems engineering with hardware, software, networking, and operating systems.
* Experience scripting processes in Bash, Python, or Ruby.
* Solid understanding of Linux, networking, and ability to troubleshoot performance, reliability, or availability issues.
* Ability to create, revise, and improve standard operating procedures (SOPs) and drive operational best practices.
Preferred Qualifications
* Experience with monitoring frameworks (e.g., CloudWatch, Datadog, Grafana, Elastic).
* Experience mentoring junior engineers and leading cross-organizational efforts.
* Experience supporting services in AWS or other cloud environments.
* Experience operating 24x7 high-availability, distributed applications and optimizing fleet utilization.
* Experience with Infrastructure as Code (CDK, CloudFormation, Puppet, Chef, Ansible or similar).
