McCloskey’s Bakery is built on a family passion that dates back to 1940. Through each generation that followed, we have become an integral part of the north‑east community, thanks to our tremendous teams, delicious products, and strong ethos.
Working pattern: The site is operational 24 hours per day, 365 days a year. Flexible working hours are required, with the understanding that 40 hours per week are completed.
The Role:

Own the end‑to‑end development and successful launch of new and improved bakery products, from concept through to full‑scale production
Develop commercially viable products across multiple baked goods categories, aligned to customer needs and market trends
Lead product trials, including hands‑on baking, and ensure successful scale‑up onto production lines with optimised recipes and processes
Develop and maintain accurate product specifications, ensuring alignment with quality, food safety, and regulatory requirements
Work with Operations to ensure products can be consistently delivered at the required standard, cost, and efficiency
Partner with Quality and Technical teams on nutritional analysis, compliance, and product performance
Identify and resolve technical or production issues arising during development or post‑launch
Deliver product innovation across all key areas including product quality (taste, texture, appearance, shelf life), process, and packaging
Engage with suppliers to source the best ingredients and materials in terms of quality and cost
Plan, manage, and deliver NPD projects to agreed timelines, ensuring clear communication and alignment with all stakeholders
Support continuous improvement of existing products where required to enhance quality, efficiency, or cost

The Candidate:

Qualified Master Baker with strong hands‑on bakery experience
Proven experience in product development within a food manufacturing environment
Ability to translate bakery concepts into scalable production processes
Strong understanding of food safety, quality standards, and regulatory requirements within bakery or FMCG
Commercially aware, with experience in product costing and margin management
Ability to work independently while effectively collaborating across Operations, Quality, Sales, and Finance
Strong planning and organisational skills, with the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously
Problem‑solving mindset, with the ability to identify and resolve issues quickly and practically
Strong communication skills, with the ability to influence and guide teams during product development and launch
