Civils Ground Foreperson – Tier 1 Contractor

The Project
A high-visibility road alignment scheme incorporating:
Approx. 400 metres of road realignment
New bus stop construction including hardstand, tactile paving, ducting, services
Multiple utilities interfaces (water, ESB, gas, telecoms, drainage)
Works carried out on a live road frontage adjacent to an innovation campus, requiring tight coordination, stakeholder management, and excellent safety and traffic control standards.
Key Responsibilities
Health & Safety Leadership
Lead daily Toolbox Talks and enforce RAMS compliance across all groundworks activities.
Ensure all Temporary Traffic Management (TTM) setups follow SLG standards.
Maintain segregation and safe public movement in a live campus/road environment.
Manage permits, excavations, underground service investigations, and temporary works awareness.
Supervision & Daily Delivery
Direct and coordinate groundworks crews across:
Excavation & formation
Sub-base installation
Kerbing, edgings & footpaths
Drainage, ducting, chambers & gullies
Road alignment tie-ins and surfacing interfaces
Bus stop construction (hardstand, shelter foundation, ducting)
Ensure all work aligns with programme targets and meets Tier 1 quality expectations.
Utilities Coordination
Oversee utility diversions, protection, and new installs.
Manage trial holes, LUS/CAT & Genny checks, and service protection in collaboration with utility providers.
Sequence works to meet available utility windows and minimise disruption.
Quality, Records & Compliance
Ensure compliance with ITPs, inspections, testing, and as-built documentation.
Maintain detailed daily diaries, progress photos, test records, and red-line drawings.
Liaise with the Engineer for level checks, QA documentation, and handover readiness.
Programme & Commercial Support
Assist with 2-week look-ahead planning, material call-offs, and resource scheduling.
Track labour, plant and productivity; flag issues early.
Record change events, delays, and constraints to support commercial reporting.
Candidate Profile
Experience & Skills
5–10+ years in groundworks/civils, including 2–3+ years as a Foreperson on similar road/utility projects.
Strong experience in urban roads, utilities, kerbing/footpaths, drainage, and traffic interfaces.
Ability to manage subcontractors and direct labour efficiently.
