Role Overview
The Head of Finance will lead and develop the finance function, ensuring it operates as a strong, forward‑looking partner to the organisation. This role combines strategic input with hands‑on leadership, overseeing day‑to‑day financial operations while contributing at a senior level to organisational planning and governance.
You will manage a small finance team, support the CEO, collaborate closely with the senior management team, and engage at Board level. A key focus will be strengthening financial controls, ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements, and supporting fundraising activities from a financial perspective.
Key Responsibilities
Financial Leadership & Strategy
Support the CEO in shaping and delivering the organisation’s financial strategy
Provide insightful financial analysis to support decision‑making and organisational growth
Partner with senior management to align financial planning with strategic objectives
Financial Operations
Oversee all aspects of financial management including budgeting, forecasting, reporting, and cash flow management
Ensure accurate and timely production of monthly management accounts and annual financial statements
Maintain oversight of financial systems and processes, driving continuous improvement
Governance, Controls & Compliance
Establish and maintain strong financial controls and risk management frameworks
Ensure compliance with all relevant charity and regulatory requirements
Lead on audit processes and liaise with external auditors and regulatory bodies
Develop and maintain robust financial policies and procedures
Team Leadership
Manage, mentor, and develop a small finance team
Foster a high‑performance, collaborative culture within the finance function
Board & Stakeholder Engagement
Prepare and present financial reports to the Board and relevant committees
Act as a key financial advisor to senior stakeholders across the organisation
Fundraising Support
Provide financial input into funding applications, grant reporting, and donor communications
Support the development of sustainable funding models and ensure financial transparency in fundraising activities
Candidate Profile
Experience & Qualifications
Fully qualified accountant (ACA, ACCA, CIMA or equivalent)
Proven experience in a charity, not‑for‑profit organisation, or public sector body is essential
Strong understanding of charity regulation, compliance, and reporting requirements
Skills & Competencies
Demonstrated ability to lead and develop finance teams
Strong technical accounting knowledge with excellent attention to detail
Experience building and improving financial controls and processes
Commercial awareness with the ability to support organisational growth
Strong communication skills, with confidence engaging at senior and Board level
Ability to balance strategic thinking with hands‑on delivery
Working Arrangements
Hybrid model: 3 days per week in the South Dublin office, with flexibility for remote working
