Job Description
During this 6‑month WPEP placement you will work alongside an experienced team to gain hands‑on experience in Customer Service, Garage Administration, Garage Maintenance and Car Part Stores and stock.
On a daily basis, you will be involved in:
* Dealing with customers to arrange inspections and assessments of their vehicles, ensuring timely drop off and collection of vehicles.
* Diary management of the mechanic team.
* Garage administration to include: ordering car parts as advised by the garage mechanics and providing quotations/invoices/receipts for customers – assisted by the mechanics.
* Laying out tools, equipment and testing machines in preparation for mechanic’s work.
* Maintenance of garage tools and equipment.
* Assisting with meeting quality standards.
* Assisting with the Health and Safety runnings of the garage.
Learning outcomes
* Learn how to deal with customer queries.
* Learn the day to day of a mechanic’s garage.
* Learn the Health and Safety requirements of running a garage.
* Learn about the safe use of tools and equipment used in a garage environment.
* Will assist other mechanic colleagues with basic mechanic tasks.
* Gain knowledge on and assist with parts inventory management and ordering new stock.
* Learn to read and interpret car manuals and technical diagrams.
* Learn how to effectively relay messages to customers based on technical mechanical advice. Give customers repair options.
* Learn about documenting work and maintenance records.
* Carrying out basic data inputting tasks in the workshop system.
* Maintaining a clean, safe and organized workshop environment.
Role Description
This is a training and work‑experience opportunity; no prior experience is required. You will receive full on‑the‑job support and complete an accredited QQI module to satisfy WPEP requirements.
