Job Summary
The EHS Advisor plays a vital role in ensuring the health, safety, and environmental standards of construction projects are met and maintained. The EHS Advisor works closely with site teams to implement and monitor safety policies, conduct risk assessments, and ensure compliance with legislation. They provide expert advice on minimising risks, promote a safety-first culture, and ensure that all personnel are trained and equipped to maintain a safe working environment. The EHS Advisor also liaises with regulatory bodies and supports the EHS Manager with continuous improvement initiatives to enhance safety performance across all sites.
Key Activities
- Conduct regular site audits and inspections to ensure both compliance with health, safety, and environmental regulations and Company Management System Procedures
- Develop and update risk assessments and method statements to identify and mitigate potential hazards.
- Deliver training and toolbox talks to site personnel and subcontractors to promote awareness and best practices.
- Investigate incidents, accidents, and near-misses, and prepare detailed reports with recommendations for corrective actions.
- Ensure that all safety signage, PPE, and emergency procedures are in place and adhered to on-site.
- Liaise with the project management team to implement site-specific Construction Health and Safety Plans and ensure ongoing compliance.
- Monitor and enforce compliance with company policies and procedures industry standards, and HSE legislation.
- Support environmental initiatives on-site, such as waste management, pollution control, and energy efficiency measures.
- Maintain HSE documentation, including GA Certifications, Statutory Inspections, Permits, incident logs, audit reports and all relevant Sub-contractor documentation to ensure they are up to date and accurate.
- Act as the primary point of contact for regulatory bodies during site visits or inspections.
- Provide proactive advice to project teams on improving safety performance and reducing risks on-site.
Competencies
- Comprehensive knowledge of EHS regulations, risk assessment, and hazard identification
- Proficiency in incident investigation, root cause analysis, and safety performance data analysis
- Expertise in management systems (e.g., ISO 14001, ISO 45001)
- Effective collaboration with project teams, subcontractors, and staff training on EHS practices
- Adaptability to evolving regulations, project requirements, and proactive improvement initiatives
- Strong organisational skills, communication skills, attention to detail, and commitment to safety excellence
Education & Experience
- Bachelor's degree in Environmental Science, Occupational Health and Safety or a related field
- A minimum of 2 years previous experience in EHS roles within the construction industry
- Familiarity with EHS management systems and compliance audits
- Practical knowledge of safety regulations and environmental legislation
- Experience in conducting risk assessments and safety training
- Knowledge of incident investigation techniques
- Understanding of environmental management practices and standards
- Continuous professional development in EHS-related topics
