St. Joseph's Foundation is a voluntary organisation providing comprehensive services for people with intellectual disabilities. Founded in 1968 the Foundation has grown through continuously responding to the needs of people with intellectual disabilities and their families. The Foundation provides services to children and adults, through day services, residential, respite care, and home support in the North Cork and South West Limerick region. We have day and residential services in various locations in the North Cork and South Limerick area; such as Charleville, Dromina, Newtownshandrum, Buttevant, Newmarket, Mitchelstown and Mallow, in Limerick; Ballylanders, Ballyagran, Bruree, Bruff Croom Dromcollogher, Granagh Kilmallock, and Liskennett.St. Joseph's Foundation is a lead agency in Cork Kerry Community Healthcare for the North West Cork and the North East Cork Children's Disability Network Teams. These teams have been formed under the National Progressing Disability Services Scheme and will be based in Mallow and Fermoy.Applications are invited for the following position:JOB TITLE: Social Worker (Basic Grade) - 12 month Fixed Term ContractREPORTING TO: Children's Disability Network Manager/Principal Social WorkerLIAISE WITH: Service Users, Parents, Families, MDT, All StaffLOCATION: North East Cork Children's Disability Network Team - FermoyHOURLY COMMITMENT: Permanent Contract: 35 hours per week (Mon - Fri)JOB GOAL:Provision of a comprehensive Social Work service for service users with intellectual disabilities and their families in the North East Cork Area.MAIN DUTIESUndertake assessments to determine need, plan service provision accordingly and review regularly.Mobilise resources and co-ordinate intervention.To provide an appropriate support services for service users with intellectual disabilities and their families.To advocate on behalf of Service Users and their Families to extend agencies.To facilitate group work for service users with intellectual disabilities to meet identified needs.To assess for home support services for service users and their families.To assess applications for respite care, residential and day services and co-ordinate access to same.To complete DSAMT'S S.W. reports and court when required.To liaise with statutory and voluntary organisations.To be an effective and responsible member of multi-disciplinary team.Maintain professional relationships and liaise with other disciplines in the Foundation.To adhere to SJF Policies and Procedures.To maintain an up to date knowledge of legislation relevant to people with intellectual disabilities and to provide information on entitlements benefits and services.To work constructively towards the safeguarding of vulnerable persons with disabilities.To develop and maintain adequate knowledge of intellectual disabilities & social work theory and practice.HEALTH & SAFETYMake oneself aware of the Foundation's duties and the employee duties under the Safety, Health & Welfare at work legislation.To ensure fire and safety precautions are implemented and maintained.To ensure adequate knowledge of emergency action and plans.To be responsible for the general safety and maintenance of any equipment provided for the fulfillment of his/her duties and to maintain a current inventory of same.Ensure that all accidents/incidents are reported and documented in the accident/incident book as held within the unit.GENERAL DUTIESTo promote a positive and respectful awareness of learning disability in the community.Be familiar with new developments in the field of Intellectual disabilities/HIQA standards and any other relevant guidelines/policies pertaining to the role.To undertake relevant training courses (both in house and external) as may be required to develop the necessary skills to meet residents/organisational needs.The above is not an exhaustive list of duties and responsibilities and this job description may be revised from time to time to take account of any changes in the requirements of the post.Application deadline is 13th February 2026
