OverviewStaff Nurse Ward - UPMC Aut Even Hospital, Kilkenny. Location: Aut Even Hospital. Job type: Permanent.
Responsibilities
The post holder will work as an integral member of the Nursing and Multidisciplinary team involved in the provision of evidence-based care to the patients who attend the hospital. The nurse will provide the highest professional and ethical standards within the model of nursing which must be assessed, planned, implemented and evaluated.

Professional Responsibilities: Practice according to the Code of Professional Conduct as laid down by the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Ireland and Professional Clinical Guidelines; adhere to NMBI code at all times; follow AutEven Hospital Guidelines/Policies/Protocols; work within scope of practice and continuously develop competence; maintain professional behaviour and accountability; provide a caring, efficient and professional nursing service; be aware of ethical policies and procedures; access documents, policies, and procedures and report incidents through the Hospital Quality Management system (Q-Pulse); respect privacy, dignity and confidentiality; assume responsibility for ward management in the absence of CNMII; mentor/buddy staff where requested and facilitate orientation and development of new staff.
Clinical Practice: Assess, plan, implement and evaluate individual care programmes; receive patients and relatives in a calm, courteous manner; assist medical staff with procedures and ensure observations are documented; ensure nursing procedures align with hospital policies.
Administration: Prepare shift handovers; observe nursing and administrative policies; maintain ward/dept. order, ensure equipment is ready for use; manage supplies efficiently; liaise with CNM II/deputy; report staffing issues in absence of CNM II; coordinate admission, transfer and discharge in line with policy; cooperate with all hospital disciplines.
Education, Training & Development: Attend in-service training; share best practices; ensure fire safety knowledge; contribute to learning of multidisciplinary team; identify training needs; provide education to patients/families as required.
Quality & Safety / Clinical Governance: Participate in service planning, measurement and audit; comply with governance, risk and health & safety principles; log incidents and near misses; contribute to policy development and ensure access to policies via Q-Pulse.
Lean: Lead and participate in lean projects; use lean tools to solve problems and drive continuous improvement.
Information Governance: Maintain patient confidentiality and proper handling of records; ensure safe custody of records when not in use.

Qualifications & Experience

Qualifications: Be registered in the General Division of the live Register of Nurses with NMBI. Maintain annual registration. Basic Life Support Certification.
Experience: Minimum of one year post-registration experience essential. May be assigned to any ward area within scope of practice including Surgical, Medical, Recovery and Day Ward.

Attend mandatory education sessions in a timely manner; maintain a professional portfolio; reflect professional and personal persona to positively represent the nursing profession and AutEven Hospital; time management skills.
Ability to provide direct patient care; demonstrate practitioner competence and professionalism; evidence-based clinical knowledge; commitment to CPD; planning and organizing skills; ability to work within a multidisciplinary team; empathy and respect for patients, relatives and colleagues; commitment to quality service; analytical, problem solving and decision-making skills; effective English communication; IT skills; infection prevention and control awareness; adherence to dress code; manage unit in absence of Clinical Nurse Manager; awareness of legislation and hospital developments.

Salary
€37,788.19 - €54,412.13 per annum (based on 37.5 hour week).
