We have a vacancy for Executive Director - Molecule Lead, Ophthalmology - Client Delivery Unit (Clinical Trials).
Position REQUIRES experience working in a CRO setting as well as Clinical Drug Development experience from early phase through commercialization and beyond, with an emphasis in Oncology indications. Candidates with Pharma/Biotech experience are preferred.
The Molecule Lead, Client Delivery Unit, provides strategic direction, leadership, and management, responsible for the delivery and growth of a portfolio (e.g., molecule/asset/therapeutic area) within the Client Sourcing Model, from early phase to commercialization. The role focuses on maximizing revenue, minimizing operating margins, and ensuring quality and client satisfaction through on-time delivery and execution. The role involves partnering with colleagues across Project Delivery, FSP, Business Development, alliance management, and Executive leadership to build and deliver studies/programs within the Client Delivery Unit.
Potential for role expansion as the book of work grows, with increased responsibilities and span of control. This role will be 50% billable and must be based in North America or Western Europe, aligned with key client leadership.
Essential Functions:
1. Engage with and develop effective working relationships with client leadership counterparts.
2. Participate in periodic face-to-face meetings at applicable client business units, with cadence driven by portfolio activity.
3. Drive delivery through innovation, out-of-the-box thinking, and entrepreneurial leadership.
4. Leverage clinical drug development expertise and contribute to scientific and operational engagements with client leadership to shape product/asset development strategies and study execution from early phase to commercialization.
5. Provide thought leadership to optimize operating models as applicable.
6. Translate therapeutic strategy expertise into operational strategies with decision-making empowerment.
7. Utilize pipeline information and strategic vision to proactively accelerate portfolio delivery and reduce white space.
8. Maintain optimal relationships with key partners and stakeholders.
9. Collaborate on the continuous development and improvement of business processes to support delivery within the Client Delivery Unit.
10. Ensure optimal performance and delivery within the book of work, supporting milestone achievement and deliverables.
11. Implement and manage the book of work in line with the operating model.
12. Drive consistency across the book of work by leveraging best practices, efficiencies, and lessons learned, and facilitate communication across teams.
13. Provide proactive feedback on risks, issues, financials, and metrics to the Client Delivery Unit Head.
14. Resolve issues that cannot be addressed by the study team, leveraging governance structures for escalation when necessary.
15. Participate in governance structures appropriate for the partnership level.
16. Perform Oversight Director duties within the partnership.
17. Drive internal resourcing and partner with functional leadership to ensure appropriate resource availability supporting a mixed resourcing model.
18. Act as a key escalation point for clients, guiding teams to identify and solve problems and proposing strategies for prevention or correction.
19. Discuss project risks and contingencies impacting time, quality, or cost with senior management through escalation pathways.
20. Lead, develop, and coach project teams in collaboration with leadership.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
* Proven track record as a Strategic Executive Director in large accounts and partnerships.
* Extensive clinical drug development experience.
* Therapeutic area expertise.
* Leadership skills to support a business through growth and change.
* Strategic vision with the ability to balance short- and long-term decisions.
* Strong financial acumen, including budgeting, forecasting, and resource management.
* Excellent communication, interpersonal skills, and executive presence.
* Organizational, negotiation, and problem-solving skills, with leadership agility in dynamic environments.
Education & Experience:
* Bachelor's degree or equivalent healthcare training/experience providing the necessary knowledge, skills, and abilities.
* 15+ years of clinical trials experience, with a successful record in developing/operationalizing strategic drug development plans in therapeutic areas including Ophthalmology. At least 4 years in clinical program leadership.
* Experience in developing and managing budgets and resources within a segment of the business.
Or an equivalent combination of education and experience that provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities.
