Water Management Professional
-----------------------------------
Job Description
The role involves conducting hydrogeological assessments and managing groundwater resources in Ireland. Hydrogeologists assess the quality of groundwater to determine its suitability for human consumption, irrigation, or industrial use. They may also design and implement systems for managing and conserving water resources.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Conduct groundwater investigations, sampling, and data analysis. This includes collecting and analyzing water samples to determine their chemical composition and other relevant characteristics.
2. Develop and manage groundwater monitoring programs. These programs involve establishing a network of wells and springs to monitor water levels and quality over time.
3. Assess impacts of developments on groundwater. This includes evaluating the potential effects of construction projects, agricultural activities, or other human activities on local water sources.
4. Design and supervise monitoring well installations. Monitoring wells are used to collect water samples and measure water levels over time.
5. Prepare technical reports and interpret hydrogeological data. Technical reports provide an overview of the results of the hydrogeological assessment and recommendations for future action.
6. Use modeling software to simulate groundwater flow and contaminant transport. Modeling helps to predict how groundwater will behave under different scenarios and identify potential problems.
7. Provide groundwater management and remediation advice. Hydrogeologists may be involved in identifying and implementing strategies for improving groundwater quality or mitigating the impacts of pollution.
8. Collaborate on environmental impact assessments and risk assessments. These assessments help to identify potential environmental risks associated with a particular project or activity.
9. Liaise with clients and regulatory bodies to ensure compliance. This includes communicating with stakeholders about the results of the hydrogeological assessment and ensuring that all relevant regulations are met.
10. Perform fieldwork and adhere to health and safety protocols. Fieldwork involves collecting data in the field and following established procedures to ensure safety.
Qualifications
* A degree in Hydrogeology, Geology, Environmental Science, or related field is typically required, with a postgraduate qualification being preferred.
* Professional experience in hydrogeology is necessary, as is proficiency in hydrogeological software (e.g., MODFLOW, GMS) and skills in GIS and data analysis.
* Strong report writing and communication skills are essential, as well as analytical and problem-solving abilities.
* A full driving license and willingness to travel for fieldwork are also required.
