Senior Dietitian for Rehabilitation Medicine Based at Blarney Rehabilitation Unit and any buildings within the Mercy University Complex. Permanent Contract, Part Time Hours. Principal Duties and Responsibilities: As a member of a multidisciplinary team, undertake specialist nutritional assessment and identify the nutritional needs of individual. Act as a therapeutic dietitian for patients, advising, implementing and monitoring the nutritional care plans of the individuals under their remit using evidence based practice. Comply with documentation regulations and ensure administration duties are undertaken in a timely manner. Work in conjunction with other team members in coordinating and developing the service to meet the needs of the patients and the objectives of the organisation. Work inter-professionally communicating effectively with patients and the other members of the MDT at all times. Work with networked teams outside of MUH to promote appropriate follow up for patients once discharged from Blarney Rehabilitation Unit (BRU). Prepare progress reports/statistics as required and in line with agreed templates/business plans. Be responsible for the provision of a high quality dietetics service and to carry out clinical and educational duties as identified and required. Develop, manage and evaluate the dietetics service at BRU in conjunction with the Dietetics Manager and the BRU team as deemed necessary to meet objectives. Participate in the development, implementation and evaluation of dietetic care pathways, effective and efficient referral processes, protocols and other resources in line with operational principles of the dietetic service. Engage in the Performance Achievement agenda of the hospital as well as team based performance and own CPD as relevant to the role. Work within own scope of professional competence in line with principles of best practice, professional conduct and clinical governance. Know the limits of own practice and when to seek advice or refer to another health professional. Prioritise and manage a patient caseload and resources according to the needs of the department and service. Work in a manner that maintains patient/client confidentiality and that upholds the clients and families/carers trust. Develop and Implement policies, protocols, guidelines and care plans, as required for the benefit of best nutrition practice in providing for the dietetic needs of the patient therefore, abiding by the National Strategies and Policies in order to maintain best practice in their assigned area. Initiate and/or participate in audit, clinical research and other quality improvement projects that enhance and maintain high quality services. Assist in the development of dietetic resources, diet sheets etc in collaboration with colleagues. Contribute to development, implementation and evaluation of standards and policies within the hospital, the service and the Department of Nutrition and Dietetics. Comply with professional, CORU, hospital and department policies, procedures and standards of care and ensure mandatory training is undertaken and up to date. Promote a high standard of service, which respects the role of other health professionals and works in accordance with relevant codes of practice and clinical governance. Contribute to the development and implementation of databases, information and audit systems and shared care arrangements. Data input in relation to clinical work for easy access by the Dietetic Manager. Provide leadership to Staff Grade Dietitians through the process of professional supervision, mentoring and tutoring. Represent the clinical nutrition & dietetic service at meetings committees and project work. Support ones colleagues within the team safely and as required. Promote a culture that values equality, diversity and respect in the work place. Undertake other appropriate responsibilities at BRU or MUH that are consistent with the nature of the post as specified by Dietetics Manager. Engage in research, education and training to ensure high clinical standards. To participate in education of colleagues using structured and unstructured methods. Student training is undertaken as part of the dietetic role in order to ensure continuity of our profession and clinical knowledge of other professionals. Work in a safe manner with due care and attention to the safety of self and others. Be aware of risk management issues, identify risks, taking appropriate action and reporting any adverse incidents or near misses when they arise with management support. Have a working knowledge of the Health Information and Quality Authority (HIQA) Standards as they apply to the role. Deputise for the Dietetic Manager if required. Be aware of and adhere to legislation concerning Health and safety, Freedom of information and the Childcare act. Eligibility Criteria - Candidates must: Be registered or eligible for registration as a Dietitian by the Dietitians Registration Board at CORU and maintain said registration annually with evidence provided to the manager. Have the requisite knowledge & ability (including a high standard of suitability & professional ability) for the proper discharge of the duties of the office.
