Overview of role:
We are currently recruiting for a Pharmacist on an 11-month fixed term contract to provide effective, efficient, and safe pharmaceutical care to all patients under the care of UPMC Aut Even Hospital.
Primary Duties and Responsibilities:
Clinical
* Ensure the highest priority is given to patient care and safety at all times.
* Understand, promote, and embody UPMC core values: Quality and Safety, Dignity and Respect, Caring and Listening, Responsibility and Integrity, Excellence and Innovation.
* Be familiar with best practices and competency frameworks for clinical pharmacy services.
* Lead in managing medicine shortages within UPMC.
* Support the development and maintenance of SOPs for medication procurement, storage, handling, and dispensing, ensuring compliance with pharmacy law and updates as practices evolve.
* Provide medicines information and advice to clinical staff regarding drug availability and procurement.
* Assist in creating medicines information resources such as leaflets, monographs, policies, and guidelines for staff and patients.
* Contribute to clinical guidelines development as part of the MDT.
* Identify and address deficiencies in medication management systems and processes.
* Report discrepancies, incidents, or service deficits to the Chief Pharmacist or Director of Pharmacy.
* Encourage reporting of incidents and near misses to support risk management and quality improvement.
* Audit medication practices for compliance with clinical standards.
* Develop reports on KPIs related to pharmacy services, including capacity, workload, costs, and safety metrics, and ensure timely dissemination and action.
* Assist in managing the drug budget through regular reporting, analysis, and horizon scanning in collaboration with the MDT.
* Participate in multidisciplinary meetings and hospital committees.
* Coordinate service delivery with pharmacy colleagues for cohesive teamwork.
* Support staff training, development, mentoring, and motivation.
* Supervise and manage pharmacy staff as appropriate.
* Support colleagues in skill enhancement and taking on advanced responsibilities.
* Ensure adherence to HR policies and procedures.
* Engage in pharmacy practice research following GCP standards.
* Perform any other duties as assigned by the Chief Pharmacist.
* Engage in continuous professional development and participate in hospital accreditation and service expansion initiatives.
* Contribute to antimicrobial stewardship and medication safety programs.
General
* Work collaboratively to keep patient care central to pharmacy activities.

Qualifications & Experience:
* Registered with the Pharmaceutical Society of Ireland or eligible for registration.
* Possess specialized knowledge and management ability relevant to the role.
* Evidence of ongoing CPD and role-specific learning.
* Demonstrate excellent planning, organizational, interpersonal, and quality improvement skills.
