Responsibilities
GENERAL DUTIESFacilitate cancer MDM to include all relevant and applicable duties including, but not limited to:1.
Agreeing timelines for availability of histological slides and reports prior to site specific MDMs with the lead consultant.2.
Using the conference lists via the oncology board system, preparation of relevant histology slides and documentation, including re filing of slides post discussion at MDM.
3. Notifying relevant MDM coordinator or Clinical Nurse Specialist when results will not be available for discussion, maintenance of up to date contact list for MDM coordinators to facilitate this.
4. Contacting other hospitals regarding retrieval of histopathological material for review at regional MDMs.
5. Provide cross functional cover within the histology department to ensure continuity of service.
Quality and Standards
1. Develop and maintain a system to allow for timely response to all queries in relation to histological cancer diagnosis for those cancers not collated via cancer data office.
2. Help with the introduction and changes to pro formas used to ensure all relevant data is available for safe and comprehensive patient discussion, capturing of outcomes at MDM and availability of outcomes for discussion with the patient.
3. Working with the multidisciplinary team (MDT) to identify areas where key performance indicators (KPIs) are not being achieved and undertake corrective action.
4. Promote timely discussion of cases and minimise unnecessary delays in retrieval of information needed for comprehensive MDM discussion.
Communication of any identified concerns to the Histopathology lead.
5. Compliance with the requirements of ISO***** and the Directorate Quality Management System.Communication1.
Establish effective communication networks with internal and external stakeholders and participate in development and change to communication processes.
2. Ability to communicate with all levels of staff.
3. Adhere to hospital policy on confidentiality and data protection.4.
Work with clinical and data management teams to produce relevant data regarding MDM activity.

In conjunction with line manager agree learning objectives designated to meet development goals to improve service.
2. Participate in quarterly performance meetings with line manager.
People Management1.
Provide effective people management and performance measurement.2.
Manage the Histology, Neuropathology and Renal Admin/Medical Laboratory Aide (MLA) resources to ensure that optimal service delivery is being achieved within headcount, motivating and guiding individuals or groups towards hospital and departmental objectives.3.
Encourage, by example, a professional, punctual and dedicated team.4.
Organising Histology, Neuropathology and Renal Admin/MLA staff rosters and holiday cover, returning payroll information and sick leave reports to HR.5.
Ensuring all staff are trained and have signed off on documentation, training and competency logs as per ISO ***** requirements.
This is done in liaison with the Training Officer where Histology, Neuropathology and Renal Admin/MLAs are assigned to individual departments/sections.6.
Participate in the recruitment and selection of staff when required.

Professional Qualifications, Experience, etc
(a) Eligible applicants will be those who on the closing date for the competition:
(i) Have satisfactory experience as a Clerical Officer in the HSE, TUSLA, other statutoryhealth agencies, or a body which provides services on behalf of the HSE under Section38 of the Health Act ****.Or
(ii) Have obtained a pass (Grade D) in at least five subjects from the approved list of subjectsin the Department of Education Leaving Certificate Examination, includingMathematics and English or Irish1.
Candidates should have obtained at least Grade Con higher level papers in three subjects in that examination.Or
(iii) Have completed a relevant examination at a comparable standard in any equivalentexamination in another jurisdictionOr
(iv) Hold a comparable and relevant third level qualification of at least level 6 on theNational Qualifications Framework maintained by Qualifications and Quality Ireland,(QQI).
Note1Candidates must achieve a pass in Ordinary or Higher level papers.
A pass in afoundation level paper is not acceptable.Candidates must have achieved these grades on the Leaving Certificate Establishedprogramme or the Leaving Certificate Vocational programme.The Leaving Certification Applied Programme does not fulfil the eligibility (b) Candidates must possess the requisite knowledge and ability, including a high standard ofsuitability, for the proper discharge of the office.2.
