About the Opportunity
Ellucian is seeking a motivated
Software Engineer I
to join our dynamic and collaborative Agile teams.
We are dedicated to delivering world-class, customer-focused SaaS solutions for higher education.
As a Software Engineer I, you will contribute to meaningful and challenging projects involving modern technologies and participate in the full software development lifecycle.
This role offers opportunities to work closely with internal product managers, experienced engineers, and cross-functional teams to design, develop, test, and deliver innovative features that impact student success and drive higher education transformation.
Where You Will Make an Impact
Design and Development:
Participate in designing, developing, delivering, and maintaining SaaS-based solutions and large ERP systems.
Full-Stack Development:
Engage in full-stack development, including front-end frameworks (e.g., React, HTML5, TypeScript) and back-end APIs using languages such as JavaScript/TypeScript (Node.js), C#, or Java.
AI-Assisted Execution:
Use AI-assisted engineering tools for well-scoped tasks such as code drafting, test creation, documentation, code comprehension, and initial troubleshooting, while validating outputs for correctness, security, and maintainability before adoption.
Best Practices:
Apply best practices in agile software development, continuous integration/delivery (CI/CD), and DevOps processes.
Quality Code:
Write high-quality code, unit and functional tests, and developer documentation (API docs, usage notes).
Collaboration:
Collaborate closely with product leadership, analysts, and team members to clarify requirements and ensure robust, future-proof designs.
Ownership:
Take ownership of assigned tasks from specification review through final testing and deployment.
Continuous Improvement:
Continuously learn new technologies, tools, and engineering practices, including effective and responsible use of AI within established team guardrails.
What You Will Bring
Experience:
0 to 3 years of experience as a full-stack software developer with proficiency in one or more programming languages such as JavaScript/TypeScript (Node.js), C# (.NET), or Java.
Client-Side Frameworks:
Experience or familiarity with client-side application frameworks (React, HTML5), web services, and relational databases (SQL).
Software Engineering:
Solid understanding of object-oriented design, patterns, data structures, and software engineering best practices.
API:
Solid understanding of REST and/or GraphQL API fundamentals
Cloud Platforms:
Exposure to cloud platforms and services (AWS, Azure) and SaaS architectures is a plus.
AI Fluency:
Ability to use AI-assisted development tools productively and responsibly to accelerate implementation, testing, learning, and troubleshooting while maintaining personal ownership of validation, code quality, and secure engineering practices.
Judgment and Validation:
Ability to review generated code and technical suggestions critically, identify when outputs are incorrect or incomplete, and seek clarification or guidance when needed.
Delivery Tooling:
Familiarity with Git, command-line tools, CI/CD systems such as Jenkins, and agile ways of working such as Scrum or Kanban.
Skills:
Strong analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills.
Learning Mindset: Demonstrated curiosity, attention to detail, and willingness to learn new technologies, business domains, and development methods.
Team Environment:
Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, team-oriented environment with attention to detail and a passion for learning.
Domain Knowledge:
Higher education domain knowledge is a plus, but not required.
