The Chief Executive Officer (CEO) will provide strategic, operational, and public‑facing leadership to European Movement Ireland (EMI), ensuring the organisation remains influential, future‑ready, and deeply connected to Ireland’s evolving relationship with Europe. Reporting to the Chair and Board, the CEO will lead the implementation of EMI’s new strategy and prepare the organisation for Ireland’s Presidency of the Council of the EU in 2026.
Strategic Priorities
Public Engagement: Expanding European Movement Ireland’s reach beyond traditional audiences.
EU Presidency Preparation: Coordinating EMI’s contribution to Ireland’s 2026 EU Presidency, building on past success.
Fundraising & ESG Strategy: Driving private sector funding and embedding ESG principles into organisational operations.
Campaigning & Advocacy: Leading impactful campaigns that translate complex EU legislation into digestible, actionable insights.
Key Responsibilities
Lead the delivery and implementation of the organisation’s strategic plan, building on the strategic objectives and annual work programme.
Advise and support the Chair and Board in policy development, strategic execution and governance.
Manage and lead the organisation in line with the ethos, values and culture of European Movement Ireland.
Lead and support the team, ensuring the delivery of the organisation’s objectives.
Provide inspiring leadership to executive staff, fostering a culture of agility, inclusion, innovation and action.
Oversee operational resilience, digital efficiency and organisational effectiveness.
Ensure strategic alignment of internal systems, culture, and capability with the organisation’s mission and future operating environment.
Drive the financial success of the organisation through careful management of finances and diversification of funding streams.
Represent European Movement Ireland to relevant Government stakeholders, Partnership Bodies, European Institutions and the wider public.
Develop strategic partnerships with key stakeholders in the Irish and EU arenas.
Act as chief spokesperson for the organisation both domestically and internationally.
Provide a strong voice in public affairs and to Irish society in highlighting the importance and value of Ireland’s partnership and influence with the European Union.
Strengthen the profile of the organisation locally and internationally.
Promote the valuable role that the organisation holds in Ireland’s interests within the EU.
Act as a trusted public communicator, capable of handling complex and sensitive conversations and debates.
Desired Knowledge, Skills & Experience
Proven experience leading a dynamic, purpose driven organisation.
A track record of successfully steering organisations through organisational change while maintaining resilience and continuity of core services and operations.
Demonstrated success in leading teams, managing resources and delivering results.
Deep understanding of EU affairs, Irish civil society and political dynamics.
Experience of campaign management, corporate and public affairs and strategic communications.
Experience of developing and implementing a diversified fundraising strategy.
Skilled public communicator with media and panel experience.
Proven track record of achievement and impact in the not-for-profit sector.
Experience in membership organisations.
Familiarity with EU legislative processes and Ireland’s role within the EU.
Ability to translate strategic goals into operational delivery.
Ambitious, passionate, collaborative and values driven leader with an ability to lead change and drive innovation.
Excellent relationship builder, capable of building trusted relationships with diverse stakeholders.
Strong understanding and advocacy for Irish and European values and knowledge of current emerging trends and opportunities.
Champion of strong corporate governance principles promoting ethical behaviour, professionalism and accountability.
You Will Also
Be educated to honours degree level in a relevant discipline.
Have flexibility to travel as required for this role.
Fluency in other languages is welcome.
