Job Description
AWS is set to introduce the inaugural European Sovereign Cloud (ESC), marking a significant development in utility computing (UC). We are seeking experienced systems engineers with a strong background in automation and operations to lead this initiative. As part of the AWS Managed Operations team, you will help build and lead operations and development teams dedicated to delivering high-availability AWS services, including EC2, S3, Dynamo, Lambda, and Bedrock, exclusively for EU customers. Your responsibilities include overseeing the launch of ESC in 2025, collaborating with global AWS teams, and influencing AWS service evolution. Daily tasks involve working with technology leaders, improving operational processes, and ensuring system performance, reliability, latency, and efficiency. You will participate in on-call rotations to resolve incidents outside of regular hours.
The goal is to deliver scalable, high-availability services for EU customers. About the Role
As a member of the AWS Utility Computing (UC) organization, you will support the development and management of compute, database, storage, IoT, platform, and productivity services. Managed Operations engineers engage with customers requiring specialized security solutions for their cloud services.
Qualifications
Minimum Requirements:
* Experience supporting cloud systems or similar services, with strong troubleshooting skills
* Proficiency in executing operational procedures and best practices
* Knowledge of scripting in Bash, Python, Ruby, or modern languages like Java or TypeScript
Preferred Qualifications:
* Experience leading cross-organizational efforts
* Performance tuning and fleet optimization skills
* Experience with Infrastructure as Code tools (e.g., CloudFormation, CDK, Ansible)
Additional Information
Fluency in English, legal right to work in Ireland, and willingness to participate in on-call rotations are required. AWS provides relocation support within the EU.
