Were currently working with one of Ireland’s largest energy companies who plays a key role in the country’s renewable energy transition, including wind and hydro projects. They require a Lead Electrical Engineer for a major 5-year maintenance overhaul involving machine inspections, dewatering of the upper reservoir and penstock for inspection, and required repairs. In addition to the standard 5-yearly programme, significant maintenance and upgrade works are planned for 2027. These will include, but are not limited to:
• Unit 1 generator rotor removal and runner extraction for repair
• Unit 2 generator rotor removal for electrical testing
• Transformer refurbishment (including new HV bushings and oil coolers)
• C&I upgrades (unit controllers, common PLC, and various PLC systems across the facility)
• A substantial balance-of-plant scope covering both electrical and mechanical systems
Key Responsibilities
Work with the Safety Adviser and project team to ensure all works are carried out in accordance with statutory safety, health, and environmental regulations, and internal technical standards and guidelines.
Manage the main EPC electrical contract, along with other electrical-related contracts or work scopes assigned by the Project Manager.
Liaise with specialist engineering teams to ensure the overhaul is delivered in line with defined procedures and protocols.
Support implementation of Inspection & Test Plans for all electrical aspects of the project, working closely with the appropriate Competent Person or Asset Management Specialist.
Manage quality requirements in accordance with the Project Quality Plan.
Provide daily supervision and act as the primary point of contact for contractors, including reviewing key ITP protocol sheets.
Collaborate with local management and maintenance teams throughout the project.
Conduct regular safety, environmental, and quality audits during the overhaul.
Report progress against schedule and attend project meetings as required.
Support the Project Manager in controlling costs for assigned contracts.
Oversee day-to-day work requirements with the principal contractor.
Develop technical specifications for mechanical plant and equipment work scopes, and participate in tendering and procurement processes.
Apply the plant modification process for all mechanical modifications, ensuring procedures and drawings are updated.
Use the Contractor Management (CM) process and related tools to manage assigned contracts, including holding Kick-Off, Progress, and Close-Out meetings.
Attend Factory Acceptance Tests (FATs) and workshop visits when required.
Prepare the Mechanical Close-Out Report.
Knowledge, Skills and Experience

Experience in planning major power-station overhauls, including logistics, procurement, specification development, and contractor management.

Qualifications
Essential:
Experience with power-plant electrical systems including generators, transformers, and HV/MV/LV switchgear.
Strong understanding of health, safety, and environmental standards and procedures.
Minimum of 5 years’ post-qualification experience in the power-generation industry.
Desirable:
Level 8 qualification in Electrical Engineering or a related discipline.
Level 8 qualification in Mechanical Engineering or a related discipline.
Base Location: Wicklow, Ireland.
The successful candidate will be required to work on site full-time.
Travel, accommodation, and related expenses for attending the site will not be reimbursed.
Expenses for business travel outside the candidate’s normal place of work will be reimbursed, subject to prior approval from the line manager.
Claims must be submitted through the contractor’s agency.
Mileage rates will not apply.
