Electrical Engineering Officer Role in the Naval Service
This role is a leadership and technical position at the heart of Naval operations, with responsibility for managing critical onboard systems and supporting mission success at sea and ashore.
The successful candidate will be responsible for:
* Designing, installing, maintaining, and upgrading complex systems across the fleet, including power generation, navigation, communications, weapons systems, environmental control, and IT infrastructure.
* Providing key support during sea postings, managing electrical, electronic, and control systems governing manoeuvrability, defence, and intelligence functions.
* Playing an active leadership role within the Naval Service, with training at the Naval College to prepare for both engineering and military responsibilities.
* Serving on ships, ashore, or in overseas assignments, with opportunities for funded Continual Professional Development in areas such as Project Management, Engineering Master's programmes, ATEX Standards, Energy Management, Vibration Analysis, and Health & Safety qualifications.
The following requirements must be met: Irish citizenship or legal entitlement to work in Ireland, meeting medical, physical, and security clearance standards, being under 50 years old, and holding a Level 8 (or higher) Honours Bachelor's Degree in Electrical or Electronic Engineering or equivalent qualification recognised by the Minister for Defence.
The recruitment process includes a competency-based interview, medical exam, and Garda vetting, all conducted at the Naval Base, Haulbowline Island, Cork.
