Electrical Engineering Officer
This leadership and technical role is at the heart of naval operations, with responsibility for managing critical onboard systems and supporting mission success at sea and ashore.
The successful candidate will have a Level 8 (or higher) Honours Bachelor's Degree in Electrical or Electronic Engineering, or an equivalent qualification recognised by the Minister for Defence.
About the Role:
* The role involves the design, installation, maintenance, and upgrade of complex systems across the fleet, including power generation, navigation, communications, weapons systems, environmental control, and IT infrastructure.
* You will play an active leadership role within the Naval Service, with training at the Naval College to prepare you for both engineering and military responsibilities.
* ELOs may serve on ships, ashore, or in overseas assignments.
* After a sea rotation, you will take up a shore-based role at the Naval Dockyard, Naval College (NMCI), or Naval Base, managing areas such as project planning, equipment procurement, and maintenance operations.
* Officers are encouraged to undertake funded Continual Professional Development (CPD) in areas such as Project Management, Engineering Master's programmes, ATEX Standards, Energy Management, Vibration Analysis, and Health & Safety qualifications.
Requirements:
* Citizenship: Irish citizen or legally entitled to work in Ireland
* Character & Fitness: Must meet medical, physical, and security clearance standards
* Age: Under 50 years on 31 December in the year of application
Recruitment Process:
A competency-based interview, medical exam, and Garda vetting will be conducted at the Naval Base, Haulbowline Island, Cork.
Salary & Benefits:
* Basic salary: €57, with annual increments
* Naval Service Allowance: €20, (tax-free)
* Additional allowances for overseas service: Starting at €15,
