Role Overview
The Catering Manager will oversee the daily operations of all catering services across Orwell Private and Garville Private, including kitchens, life skills kitchens, café, and shop services. The role ensures all catering services are delivered in line with Orwell Healthcare policies and procedures, with a strong focus on nutrition, hygiene, safety, operational efficiency, and resident satisfaction.
Working closely with clinical teams, the Catering Manager will ensure residents’ nutritional needs are met while maintaining full compliance with food safety legislation, HIQA standards, and best practice in healthcare catering.
Duties and Responsibilities
Oversee the day-to-day running of all catering services including Resident dining services at Orwell Private and Garville Private, Specialist dietary requirement, The Café on the Avenue, Kitchenettes and Life Skills kitchens, On-site shop services
Ensure high standards of food quality, presentation, hygiene, and service delivery.
Monitor stock levels and manage stock control across all catering areas.
Oversee waste management and implement measures to reduce food waste while maximizing efficiency.
Manage catering services for events and activities in collaboration with the Activities Team and Management.
Team Leadership & Training
Lead, supervise, and support catering staff across all catering areas.
Manage staff scheduling and rosters to ensure appropriate staffing levels and value for money.
Deliver training and induction for new staff, including HACCP and operational procedures.
Promote a culture of professionalism, teamwork, and excellent customer service.
Customer Service & Resident Support
Deliver excellent customer service, ensuring a positive resident and visitor experience.
Work collaboratively with clinical and care teams to meet the nutritional needs of residents.
Conduct food satisfaction surveys and implement improvements based on feedback.
Ensure a positive dining experience that enhances the overall wellbeing of residents.
Governance & Administration
Maintain confidentiality of resident and organisational information.
Report resident concerns or complaints promptly to management.
Assist with maintaining equipment, ensuring preventative maintenance and record keeping.
Support the implementation and review of catering policies and procedure.
Compliance, Safety & Reporting
Uphold full compliance with HIQA standards, the Health Act 2007, and all relevant regulations.
Maintain adherence to HACCP procedures, food safety legislation, and Environmental Health Officer (EHO) requirements.
Ensure compliance with health and safety policies including infection control, hand hygiene, choking risk management, hydration guidelines, and specialised dietary requirements such as pureed or modified diets.
Maintain accurate records and complete required audits including HACCP documentation and operational checks.
