As a small, agile university-origin SME, MBP Systems collaborates closely with international research and industry partners to turn research outcomes into scalable products for trustworthy and resilient next-generation networks.Role DescriptionWe are looking for a Research Engineer to join our growing deep-tech SME and contribute to the development of secure, intelligent, and privacy-preserving solutions for future 6G networks. You will work at the intersection of AI, machine learning, cybersecurity, and next-generation network architectures, collaborating with a highly international and multidisciplinary team.This role combines hands-on technical research and engineering with innovation, product thinking, and proposal development, offering a unique opportunity to shape both cutting-edge research outcomes and the company's future product line.Key ResponsibilitiesDesign and develop AI-driven security mechanisms for future 6G and beyond networksApply machine learning techniques for threat detection, anomaly detection, trust evaluation, and secure service operationsContribute to the development of research outputs that feed directly into the company's envisaged product portfolioCollaborate closely with an international consortium of industry and research partnersSupport the preparation of research proposals, technical sections, and participation in new European and international consortiaContribute to system architecture design, experimentation, validation, and technical documentationPublish and disseminate research results through high-quality scientific venues, white papers, and technical reportsQualificationsStrong background in Computer Science, with knowledge of networks, cybersecurity, and AI/ML methodologies.Proven expertise in Research and Development (R&D) and conducting advanced Research in related fields.Proficiency in mathematical modeling, programming, and data analysis.Ability to work collaboratively in interdisciplinary research teams.Ph.D. or Master's degree in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, or a related discipline (or equivalent professional experience).Prior experience in 5G/6G networks, privacy-preserving algorithms, or cybersecurity is a plusDesirable skills• Knowledge of privacy-enhancing technologies (e.g., federated learning, differential privacy, secure data sharing)• Experience with Explainable AI (XAI) or trustworthy AI concepts• Understanding of energy-efficient or sustainable system design• Prior involvement in EU-funded research projects or large collaborative initiativesWhy join us• Hybrid role with flexible working hours, designed to support focused research and a healthy work–life balance• Hands-on access to one of Ireland's most advanced 5G/6G testbeds, enabling real experimentation beyond simulations• Work in a highly international environment, collaborating with leading researchers, engineers, and industry partners across Europe• Opportunities to travel across Europe for face-to-face consortium meetings, workshops, and technical events• Be part of a small, agile, university-rooted SME where your research directly shapes products, technology direction, and long-term impact
