The Role: Transport Manager ( driver experience)
This is a practical, hands-on position combining driving with responsibility for a small fleet and team of two drivers.
The successful candidate will ensure all vehicles, drivers and transport activities operate in full compliance with legislation while supporting the smooth day-to-day movement of fresh seafood.
Working pattern includes Saturday work, with no Sunday work, no overnight stays, and a requirement for flexibility to meet operational demands.
Key Responsibilities
Plan and coordinate daily transport schedules, routes and driver allocations
Collect fresh seafood from key ports and suppliers along the East Coast
Oversee day-to-day fleet operations, including maintenance planning and issue reporting
Ensure compliance with transport legislation, including driver hours, tachograph usage, CPC requirements and Working Time Directive
Oversee fleet compliance, ensuring all trucks are roadworthy, serviced, taxed, insured and maintained to a high standard
Proactively manage vehicle maintenance, inspections and breakdown prevention
Promote safe driving practices and ensure vehicles are properly cleaned, maintained, and operated in line with company standards
Uphold delivery procedures and company policies at all times
Support vehicle and equipment breakdown prevention with timely reporting and proactive maintenance
Maintain high standards for the premises and vehicle presentation
Drive when required, supporting the transport team as needed
Requirements
3+ years in a supervisory or management role within a fast-paced, time-sensitive transport or logistics environment (multi-drop experience preferred)
Experience managing driver hours, allocations and compliance for a small fleet
Background in food or seafood distribution is an advantage
Full, clean driver's licence essential; up to date CPCs, Management CPC highly desirable and ability to operate a moffat or willingness to train.
Strong working knowledge of transport regulations (tachograph, driver hours, WTD, etc.)
Proficient in Microsoft Outlook, Excel, and Word; able to adapt to internal IT systems
Strong team leadership, communication and decision-making skills with a hands-on attitude
Proven ability to plan and manage individual and team workloads effectively
Fluent English – written and spoken
Strong knowledge of transport regulations (Tachograph, Working Time Directive, etc.)
Familiarity with the road network and logistics of the South East region
Drive when required, supporting the transport team as needed
