Position: Field Based Engineer

Reports to: Professional Services Manager
General Summary:
Project Engineers are strong in all the most common and popular networking technologies.
In addition to strong technical aptitudes.
This person is a good communicator and a person who can manage well when the client really needs strong guidance.
The pace and demands in this environment are usually much greater than an "in-house" position.
This person should be prompt and/or know the importance of communicating ETAs to clients.
This person should be skillful at pre-project/work-briefings with each client on each project.
This person should then be able to execute with a high degree of success in integrating and/or solving problems in environments rich in Windows Server, Microsoft 365, Cisco Internetworking, VPN's, firewalls, backup systems and more.
Position Responsibilities:
Documentation of Client Networks
Small Projects
Assist Sr.
Engineers on Larger projects.
General service requests
Backup Maintenance
Installation, configuration, troubleshooting and customization of MS Office Suite and third party applications per customer's/third party preferences.
Understanding of and ability to install, configure and test end user hardware including video cards, NICs, sound cards, hard drives, and PDAs.
Network Server Experience in Windows Server
Configure file, print and remote access services.
Administration, including add/remove users and groups, configure file permissions, check event logs, configure, and restore from backup.
Administration of enterprise e-mail application, including add/remove users and group, configure folder permissions if applicable, forward mail to other accounts, and add aliases.
Takes ownership of tasks and follows through to ensure complete resolution.
Takes a personal interest in, and responsibility for, quality of work they perform or are associated with.
Ability to pay close attention to detail while performing technically detailed tasks.
Ability to deal effectively with stressful situations.
Ability and willingness to recognize when it is necessary to ask for technical expertise from others without unnecessarily burdening other team members.
Ability to provide accurate time estimates for how long a task will take.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Previous MSP Experience
Experience required with Windows desktop operating systems.
Understanding of TCP/IP and troubleshooting Internet connectivity
Experience with routers and firewalls.
Preferably FortiGate/Fortinet
Experience with Terminal Services/RDS.
Understanding of relationship between switches, hubs, patch panels and connecting nodes to a network
Understanding of DNS services
Working Knowledge of Firewall Technologies.
Preferably FortiGate/Fortinet
Working Knowledge of Wireless Technologies.
Preferably Ubquiti.
Participates in pre-sales activity.
Assist sales and make recommendations for clients.
Participates in project planning with third party suppliers.
Mentors' new engineers/techs
Shows ability to be a lead engineer.
Strong growth mindset, willing to further professional development.
Ability to plan and deploy projects.
Example: Deploy new server to replace legacy OS server, move all services such as DHCP, DNS, FSMO, File Services, required third party apps.
Example: Plan and replace multiple switches across a site along with Access Points.
Example: Plan and assist with an office move from all IT perspective.
Credentials and Experience and Expectations:
IT/Computer Science related college qualification
Switching, VLAN, Routing, Firewalling Support.
Preferably FortiGate/Fortinet
Server Hardware Technologies (CPU/RAID/SCSI) Support.
Preferably Dell.
Data Backup and Recovery Support
Corporate Antivirus Support
VPN Connectivity Support
The following certifications are preferred: CompTIA A+ (901, 902) and CompTIA N, Microsoft, Cisco, Fortinet, Dell
Solid dependable engineer follows directions and maximizes billing opportunities.
