Description
The department of History at Vanderbilt University seeks candidates for an instructional position at the rank of Senior Lecturer in U.S. Economic History. We seek a U.S. historian with a demonstrated record of teaching excellence who specializes in economic history, of any period. We are especially interested in candidates comfortable teaching a diversity of methods, both quantitative and qualitative. The position will begin in Fall 2026 and is on the continuing track (non-tenure-track). The teaching load is six courses per academic year, including an introduction to economic history, methods in economic history, a majors' capstone on introduction to economic theme, and elective courses in the candidate's area of expertise, such as U.S. business and finance, capitalism, entrepreneurship, innovation, labor and management, poverty, social inequality, neoliberalism, protectionism, and globalization. The successful candidate will make key contributions to "Economic and History" a thriving interdisciplinary major at Vanderbilt. Students in the program are encouraged to study topics that stretch across national and chronological boundaries, and to think comparatively. The initial appointment is for three years, with the potential for continuing reappointment, contingent upon institutional review. All faculty in the Department of History teach classes at all levels of curriculum, from introductory lectures to upper-level seminars, and also serve in an advisory capacity for honors students and undergraduate majors. All faculty also participate in the A&S core, the general education program of the College of Arts and Science.

Qualifications
Candidates should have evidence of excellent teaching experience,and a commitment to original research in U.S. and economic history. All requirements for the PhD in history must be completed no later than August 1, 2026.
