Job Title: Operations Engineering Manager
About the Role:
The Operations Engineering Manager is a critical leadership position responsible for overseeing the operations of Amazon's data centers and colocation facilities. This individual will lead high-performing teams to manage daily operations, apply technical expertise to address emerging challenges, and drive operational excellence.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Hire, manage, and develop operations teams, including compute and engineering operations managers, and their teams.
2. Achieve organizational performance goals for safety, security, availability, scaling, efficiency, and cost.
3. Plan and execute infrastructure operations for new data centers and colocation expansions.
4. Operate and maintain mechanical, electrical, and controls systems in data centers, including preventive maintenance, corrective maintenance, and change management.
5. Manage colocation data center service providers to meet or exceed contracted performance SLAs.
6. Lead safety, security, and availability incident response, management, and resolution.
7. Improve operational processes, procedures, methods, and tools continuously.
About the Team:
The AWS Infrastructure Services team owns the design, planning, delivery, and operation of all AWS global infrastructure. We are the people who keep the cloud running, supporting all AWS data centers and servers, storage, networking, power, and cooling equipment to ensure our customers have continual access to innovation.
What You'll Do:
You'll join a diverse team of software, hardware, and network engineers, supply chain specialists, security experts, operations managers, and other vital roles. You'll collaborate with people across AWS to deliver the highest standards for safety and security while providing seemingly infinite capacity at the lowest possible cost for our customers.
Requirements:
* Bachelor's or Master's degree in Engineering, Computer Science, or a related field, or relevant industry experience.
* 10+ years of relevant management experience in data centers operations, facility engineering operations, information technology critical environment facilities, advanced high-volume manufacturing, or similar.
* Demonstrated track record in delivering complex analytical and quantitative projects through verbal and written communication.
* Proven ability to hire, develop, and manage high-performing geographically distributed technical teams.
* Excellent written and verbal communications skills.
Preferred Qualifications:
* Expertise in one or more continuous improvement methodologies such as Lean or Six Sigma.
* Substantial knowledge of mechanical, electrical, and controls systems in a critical or controlled environment.
* Broad knowledge of information technology infrastructure domains such as compute server platforms, storage server platforms, server components, network devices, technologies, and architectures, IT service delivery principles, and best practices.
