State Manager
Hours of Work
Mon – Friday – 6:00am – 3:00pm
Position Summary
As State Manager you are responsible for overseeing the operations of transportation and warehousing activities within your allocated state. This role ensures that all logistics, distribution, and storage operations are executed efficiently, cost-effectively, and in compliance with safety and regulatory standards. The State Manager will lead a team, manage resources, and coordinate with various departments to meet business objectives and oversee facility and asset management.
Key Position Responsibilities
Ensure that the Depot is operated in an efficient and safe manner at all times;
Reporting all incidents/near misses/OHS issues and first aid incidents on the Corporate Intranet;
Track and report on delivery performance, ensuring schedules and routes are followed;
Update management on operational status, including any issues related to deliveries, vehicles, or staff.
Drive continuous improvement initiatives within the department;
Leadership of all staff to ensure the effective, efficient and safe operation of the depot;
Manage compliance with all relevant industry legislation, regulations (including but not limited to CoR and Fatigue Management) and community expectations;
Actively manage the operational and financial performance to the set budgets and business goals, using KPI’s to monitor outcomes;
Adherence to National Operations Standards (NOS) throughout your depot, agents and subcontractors;
Assist with the development and maintenance of company policies and procedures;
Lead and facilitate improvement projects which will create efficiencies, reduce waste, lower operational costs and increase customer satisfaction across the operation;
Providing exceptionally strong leadership and mentoring of all direct reports;
Manage the operations exceeding CoR compliance requirements across Fatigue Management, Load Restraint and Mass Maintenance;
Develop a customer service culture within the business to ensure customer satisfaction is achieved, maintained, and exceeded;
Ensure communication flows between all levels of the business;
Perform tasks outside of your position description as instructed by the Direct Freight management team.
Key Position Capabilities
Computer proficiency and experience with Microsoft suite and programs such as Fleet Master or similar;
Have exceptional organizational skills with the ability to prioritize tasks and multiskilling to meet deadlines;
Well-developed verbal, written and interpersonal communication skills;
Excellent negotiation, people management and motivational skills;
A high standard of professionalism;
Sound knowledge and experience of the local transport industry;
Knowledge of the various types of trucks & trailers combinations utilized inroad-freight logistics;
Good understanding of the road-freight logistics process;
Quick creative problem solving & ability to handle high levels of pressure;
Coach and mentor managers and supervisors to ensure development and growth;
Ability to transfer operational knowledge to all employees to assist in their development and proficiency.
