Play Therapist Job Description Role: Play Therapist Key Responsibilities: Plan, implement, deliver, and evaluate weekly play therapy interventions on a 1:1 basis with children aged 4-12 years Work directly with families via regular review sessions Document assessments and interventions in line with professional guidelines Carry out play therapy with assigned caseload of children impacted by familial substance misuse Liaise with and make referrals to local agencies Develop and implement group interventions Provide psychoeducation to caregivers in a strengths-based manner Qualifications Required: Essential: o Degree (Level 8) in social care, health, education, youth and community, or equivalent o Post-graduate qualification in Play Therapy/Child and Adolescent Psychotherapy (Level 9) o Full accreditation with a recognized counselling/psychotherapy association (e.g., Irish Association of Play Therapy & Psychotherapy) o Two years post-qualifying experience working therapeutically with children o Experience with children and families who have experienced trauma, substance misuse, and poverty o Comprehensive knowledge of child development o In-depth knowledge of Children First and Child Protection procedures Desirable: o Experience delivering dyadic child and family therapy (e.g., Theraplay or Filial Therapy) o Experience with dyadic assessments (e.g., Marschak Interaction Method) o Circle of Security Parenting certification o Working knowledge of Infant Mental Health Personal Skills: Self-starter with initiative and high motivation Excellent organizational skills Strong team player with flexibility Exceptional observational and listening skills Exemplary interpersonal skills Strong emotional resilience and self-awareness Creative and imaginative approach to play-based interventions Skills: Play therapy play therapist
