Deputy Head of Service Job Summary
The Deputy Head of Service is a key role within our organization, responsible for leading and managing services in a designated geographic area. The successful candidate will be accountable for operational delivery and policy development, ensuring that services meet statutory requirements and are relevant to the needs of local communities.
The ideal candidate will have a strong background in librarianship, with experience in developing and implementing new services or approaches to service delivery. They will possess excellent problem-solving skills, able to successfully prioritize and manage a diverse range of tasks within a demanding work environment.
A key aspect of this role is people development, and the ability to act as a role model, leading and developing teams and empowering staff. Effective partnership working to deliver customer-focused services is also essential.
The postholder will be required to represent our organization's interests with a wide range of stakeholders, including politicians and the public. They will be expected to engender sound and productive internal and external relationships in support of our business goals.

Main Responsibilities:
- Lead and manage the delivery of effective public library services in a designated geographic area
- Develop and implement appropriate performance indicators, benchmarks and standards to measure the quality and impact of services
- Monitor performance against business, service and local plans and report to senior management as required
- Manage and direct the work of staff in the designated geographic area, ensuring appropriate levels of delegation of responsibility and accountability
Key Skills and Qualifications:
- Qualified to degree level with evidence of continuous professional development
- At least five years' experience in the development and delivery of library services
- Strong problem-solving skills, with the ability to successfully prioritize and manage a diverse range of tasks
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to engage effectively with stakeholders at all levels
