Responsibilities

Director of Nursing
Responsibilities

Oversee overall operations and ensure compliance with regulatory and organisational standards.
Maintain high‑quality nursing and clinical standards; ensure best practices in resident care.
Promote residents’ wellbeing through social engagement and person‑centred activities.
Manage admissions, discharges, and bed occupancy efficiently.
Foster open communication and strong relationships with residents’ families.
Lead, mentor, and support nursing and care staff; oversee recruitment, training, and performance management.
Manage budgets, resources, and administrative operations effectively.
Ensure a safe, clean, and comfortable environment for residents, staff, and visitors.

Requirements

Registered general nurse on the register of nurses held by the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Ireland.
Evidence of continuous professional development.
A postgraduate qualification in nursing management, gerontology, healthcare leadership, or healthcare management, or willingness to undertake one.
Minimum 3 years’ experience in nursing older persons within the previous 6 years.
Minimum 3 years’ experience in a management capacity within the health and social care sector.
Ability to communicate effectively with residents, family members, multidisciplinary teams, management, and external agencies including Health Information and Quality Authority, Health Service Executive, and GPs.
Post‑registration qualification in dementia care and gerontology is highly desirable.

Assistant Director of Nursing – ADON
Responsibilities

Provide clinical leadership and support the effective day‑to‑day operations of the nursing home.
Oversee delivery of high‑quality care, ensuring accurate documentation and adherence to clinical standards across the service.
Promote and maintain a positive, collaborative, and team‑focused working culture.
Lead and support clinical governance initiatives, audits, quality improvement activities, and risk‑management processes.
Assist with staff rostering, performance management, supervision, and ongoing professional development.
Act as a key point of contact for residents and their families, supporting effective communication and person‑centred care.
Deputise for the director of nursing when required and support operational decision‑making.
Ensure medication‑management practices comply with NMBI guidelines and best‑practice standards.
Liaise with GPs, pharmacists, and relevant healthcare professionals regarding medication reviews, audits, and safe medication practices.
Ensure all nursing staff are competent in medication management through appropriate training, induction, supervision, and adherence to safe prescribing, administration, and documentation practices, including electronic prescribing systems.

Requirements

Registered nurse with active registration with the NMBI.
Minimum of 3 years’ experience in a senior nursing or management role such as ADON, clinical nurse manager, or senior staff nurse.
Demonstrated clinical competence and professional ability within a healthcare or residential care setting.
Strong leadership, communication, interpersonal, and organisational skills.
Commitment to delivering high‑quality, person‑centred care and promoting resident wellbeing.
Good working knowledge of HIQA standards, regulations, procedures, notifications, and best‑practice guidelines.
Post‑registration qualification in gerontology and/or dementia care is highly desirable.
Willingness to undertake further relevant postgraduate study within 3 years of employment, with employer support.
Relevant post‑registration qualification and commitment to continuous professional development.
Must hold valid eligibility to work in Ireland.

Clinical Nurse Manager (CNM)
Responsibilities

Make certain that the best clinical standards and home policies are consistently followed.
Keep an eye on the nursing staff’s compliance and drug administration.
Create a monthly stock inventory and place monthly orders for goods.
Collaborate and maintain a visible presence with the care assistants and staff nurses.
Work with the director of nursing to take part in staff nurse and care assistant performance reviews and training.
Examine recent admissions to ensure that the necessary planning, execution, and assessment of care are recorded.
Capacity to support the director of nursing in all duties so that, in event of an annual leave of absence, the function can be efficiently assumed.
Take charge of daily tasks such as monitoring and updating rosters as needed, participating in handovers, and assessing resident advancement.
Support and enhance clinical practice by working directly with staff nurses and care assistants.

Requirements

BSc in general nursing or equivalent qualification.
Registered on the NMBI Live Register.
Previous managerial training and/or experience (advantageous).
Demonstrated excellent leadership, organisational, and communication skills.
Proven sound clinical and managerial decision‑making ability.
Ability to motivate self and others and work effectively on own initiative.
Strong ability to work collaboratively and promote a positive team environment.
