Overview
Engineering Manager role at Primark. You will have a mandate for building and running a large and complex engineering domain, working with Product Managers and Product Owners to enable more frequent and faster deployments, improve software quality, reduce change failure rate, and improve mean time to recover. You will create new products and deliver continuous value by delivering the product roadmap.
Contract: 18 month FTC.
What you’ll do
* Promote Primark Ways of Working (WoW) and standards across engineering teams.
* Provide oversight of design and delivery (development, testing and release/deploy) of engineering solutions for backlog items.
* Oversee release to production (Go live) including AIS.
* Define and govern software quality standards, service transition rigor, and security compliance to improve software delivery and operational performance, measured by metrics such as MTTR, Change Failure Rate, Deployment lead time, and technical debt.
* Oversee Engineering Demand management and capacity management; act as the escalation point for Product and Delivery.
* Manage 3rd party relationships, contracts, performance, metrics, and drive to meet/exceed expectations.
* Ensure compliance of engineering teams and timely audit responses to known issues.
* Define the Product Domain minimum viable Definition Of Ready and Definition Of Done with each team.
* Ensure operational demand (defects, tech debt, risk/audit) is represented in the Product Backlog in collaboration with Product Owners and Managers.
* Develop shared ambitious OKRs aligned to the strategy and hold the team accountable.
* Foster a culture of Stability, Security, Data Protection, and accessibility in all processes, procedures, and products.
* Define, monitor, and review appropriate monitoring and adjustments regularly.
* Eliminate and avoid the accumulation of technical debt.
* Promote collaboration and continuous improvement across the area, driving efficiency and automation.
* Develop a culture of awareness and accountability for Cyber, data security and compliance.
* Ensure engineering costs for the portfolio are known, monitored and optimised.
* Leverage shared services from wider technology groups to ensure consistency of policies, processes, and procedures as appropriate.
* Proactively seek external insight, trends and innovation and help identify necessary or desirable third-party technology.
* Participate in on-call rota and fulfill requirements as appropriate.
What you’ll bring
* 10+ years experience in software engineering delivery or IT transformation delivery at enterprise level, preferably in an agile-at-scale environment.
* Experience in owning and managing senior business stakeholder relationships.
* An appropriate degree, equivalent qualification or experience.
* Excellent communication, presentation and facilitation skills; strong people management and project management abilities.
* Experience with vendors and systems integrators.
* Experience with MACH architecture and SaaS & PaaS desirable.
