Job Description
Atlantic Technological University (ATU) invites applications from outstanding early-career researchers for a Postdoctoral Researcher position in
Climate Change and Infrastructure
. The successful candidate will join a dynamic research environment spanning engineering, climate science, and policy, with a central focus on how infrastructure both contributes to climate change and is shaped by its impacts. The position is based at ATU Sligo and is part of the
TU RISE programme ()
, a transformative initiative co-financed by the Government of Ireland and the European Union through the ERDF Regional Programmes 2021–27.

We are seeking excellent researchers who have recently completed a PhD in civil or environmental engineering, construction, climate science, or a related discipline. In line with EU criteria, an equivalent qualification is also acceptable, namely four years of full-time research experience following a primary degree. Applicants should demonstrate a strong research record in academic writing, data analysis, and collaborative projects, with a clear interest in sustainable materials, climate risk assessment, or infrastructure resilience. Desirable qualifications include postdoctoral or project management experience, success in peer-reviewed publishing and grants, and the ability to connect research to policy and industry practice.

The postdoctoral researcher will play a central role in advancing ATU's research on sustainable infrastructure, contributing to publications, grant proposals, and evidence-based tools for decision-making. They will also engage closely with the
TU RISE doctoral training programme
, which supports 60 PhD researchers in partnership with industry. The researcher will be encouraged to identify translational opportunities from doctoral projects, foster collaboration across faculties, and build connections with enterprises, government bodies, and regulators to address challenges in climate adaptation and mitigation.

This position is offered on a specific purpose contract until
31 December 2027
, with salary aligned to the Irish Universities Association Postdoctoral Researcher scale (€46,305–€52,863). The role is full-time (39 hours per week) and comes with opportunities for conference presentation, supervision of PhD students, and engagement with ATU's wider research community.

The deadline for applications is
Friday, 17 October 2025, at 12 noon
.
