The Tool Room Assistant supports the efficient operation of the tool room by managing tools, equipment, and materials required for production and maintenance activities.
The role ensures tools are maintained, issued, stored, and tracked accurately, contributing to smooth production workflows and minimising downtime.
Tool & Equipment Management Issue, receive, and record tools, dies, jigs, and fixtures used in production.
Maintain an organised tool room ensuring tools are stored safely and appropriately.
Monitor tool inventory levels and report shortages or repair needs.
Assist with basic tool cleaning, inspection, and minor repairs where trained.
Stock Control & Administration Maintain accurate records of tool usage using manual logs or digital systems.
Support the ordering of new tools, equipment, and consumables.
Conduct regular stock checks and update inventory systems.
Label, catalogue, and track all tools to ensure proper traceability.
Maintenance Support Coordinate the sending out of tools for calibration or external repair.
Prepare tools and equipment for production set-ups as required.
Assist technicians and engineers with locating or preparing specialised tooling.
Health, Safety & Compliance Follow all health, safety, and environmental procedures in the tool room.
Report damaged tools or safety concerns immediately.
Ensure safe handling, storage, and disposal of materials.
General Support Maintain cleanliness and organisation of the tool room and associated areas.
Support continuous improvement and lean initiatives.
Assist with other production or engineering tasks when required.
Experience working in a tool room, workshop, or manufacturing of lean manufacturing principles (5S, Kanban, etc.).
Mechanical or engineering qualification at QQI Level 5 or equivalent.
