We are currently seeking an Assistant Director of Nursing to join our dynamic team and lead the care team in delivering the highest standards of care at Suncroft Lodge Nursing Home, located just outside The Curragh, Co. Kildare.
Role Summary
Support the Director of Nursing in the overall management and day‑to‑day operations of the home
Assist in the efficient management of resources and allocation of staff duties
Monitor staff performance and ensure high standards of care delivery
Act as Person in Charge in the absence of the Director of Nursing
Full‑time, permanent position following a six‑month probation period.
Qualifications
Must be registered with An Bord Altranais (NMBI)
Minimum of five years post‑registration experience required
Strong knowledge of relevant legislation and HIQA Standards for Residential Care Settings
Previous experience as an ADON is essential
Key Responsibilities
Support the delivery of high‑quality, person‑centred care
Promote resident independence and wellbeing while reducing unnecessary hospital admissions
Provide clinical expertise aligned with best practice standards
Support effective resource management and continuous service improvement
Participate in daily management activities, including nursing rounds
Foster teamwork, motivation, and professional development among staff
Support the development, implementation, and review of policies and procedures
Ensure compliance with HIQA National Standards and regulatory requirements
Clinical Governance: act as Person in Charge in the absence of the DON
Support clinical audits, quality initiatives, and service improvements
Assist in managing complaints, incidents, and clinical risk management
Provide mentorship and clinical supervision to nursing staff
Promote evidence‑based practice and professional accountability
Human Resources
Support staff development, performance reviews, and workforce planning
Assist with rostering, attendance management, and recruitment processes
Provide clinical supervision to nurses and care assistants
Education & Development
Support induction and ongoing staff training programmes
Encourage continuous professional development and reflective practice
Participate in relevant training, seminars, and professional events
Self‑Development
Maintain up‑to‑date knowledge of nursing practice and healthcare developments
Maintain a professional development portfolio and engage in ongoing learning
