Senior Dietitian - Upper Gastrointestinal (UGI) Cancer Part Time Hours (17.5hrs per week), Permanent Contract Principal Duties and Responsibilities: Provide a high quality dietetic service acting as a therapeutic dietitian for patients, advising, implementing and monitoring the nutritional care plans of the individuals under their remit using evidence based practice.
Work in conjunction with other team members and the Dietetic manager in coordinating and developing the service to meet the needs of the service user group and the objectives of the organisation Work with teams outside of the hospital to ensure appropriate care and/or follow up for patients Develop, manage and evaluate the Dietetics service to Upper GI cancer patients in conjunction with the Dietetics Manager and the Upper GI team as deemed necessary using evidence base alongside clinical audit and quality improvement models Develop, implement and evaluate dietetic care pathways, protocols, policies, effective and efficient referral processes and other resources in line with relevant operational principles Work within own scope of professional competence in line with principles of best practice, professional conduct and clinical governance.
Know the limits of own practice and when to seek advice or refer to another health professional.
Prioritise and manage a patient caseload according to the needs of the department and service.
Work in a manner that maintains patient/client confidentiality and that upholds the client's and families'/carers' trust.
Comply with professional, CORU, hospital and department policies, procedures and standards of care.
Promote a high standard of service, which respects the role of other health professionals and works in accordance with relevant codes of practice and clinical governance.
Contribute to the development and implementation of databases, information and audit systems and shared care arrangements.
Represent the clinical nutrition dietetic service at meetings, committees and project work.
Support colleagues within the team safely and as required Promote a culture that values equality, diversity and respect in the work place.
Undertake other appropriate responsibilities consistent with the nature of the post as specified by Dietetics Manager.
Ongoing Professional Education: Contribute to evidence based education of colleagues, other disciplines and service user groups in this clinical specialist area in collaboration with peers Participate in the development and evaluation of nutrition education resource material.
Attend mandatory training programmes ensuring compliance at all times.
Supervise staff grade dietitians as assigned by the Dietetics Manager Support induction and mentoring to professional colleagues.
Manage, participate and play a key role in the practice education of student Dietitians.
Engage in professional supervision, personal development planning, relevant CPD, reflective practice and the Performance Achievement agenda of the hospital in collaboration with the Dietitian Manager and in line with CORU requirements Administrative: Prepare progress reports/statistics as required and in line with agreed templates/business plans.
Ensure the maintenance of appropriate records in accordance with organisational, departmental and professional requirements.
Contribute to the development and oversee the implementation of information sharing protocols, audit systems, referral pathways, and share care arrangements.
Work within legal framework of GDPR at all times.
Carry out other duties appropriate to the post as required by the Dietitian Manager or designated other person.
To deputise for the Dietitian Manager if required.
Eligibility Criteria - Qualifications and/ or experience.
Each candidate must on the latest date for receipt of completed application form to this office possess: 1. Statutory Registration, Professional Qualifications, Experience, etc.
Candidates for appointment must:
(i) Be registered, or be eligible for registration, as a Dietitian by the Dietitians Registration Board at CORU.
(ii) Have at least 3 years full time (or an aggregate of 3 years full time) post qualification relevant dietetic experience.
(iii) Candidates must have the requisite knowledge and ability (including a high standard of suitability and professional ability) for the proper discharge of the duties of the office.
(iv) Provide proof of Statutory Registration on the Dietitians Register maintained by the Dietitians Registration Board at CORU before a contract of employment can be issued .
2. Annual Registration
(i) On appointment practitioners must maintain annual registration on the Dietitians Register maintained by the Dietitians Registration Board at CORU.
(ii) Practitioners confirm annual registration with CORU to the HSE by way of the annual Patient Safety Assurance Certificate (PSAC).
