Staff Nurse Endoscopy - UPMC Kildare

Overview of role:
The post holder will work as an integral member of the Nursing and Multidisciplinary team.
Primary Duties and Responsibilities:
* Take responsibility for all equipment such as endoscopy monitors, Dinamaps, suction apparatus, diathermy machines, light source, and photographic printer, and ensure that suction lines, water bottles, and tubing are attached to suction machines.
* Ensure the updating of the endoscopy register and verify the endoscopy list with PIMS, ensuring correct patient details are entered into the endoscopy machine.
* Maintain stock levels to meet daily requirements.
* Ensure the patient is attached to monitoring equipment and oxygen, and positioned correctly.
* Assist the consultant with drug preparation and necessary checks.
* Assist with biopsies, ensuring patient positioning and monitoring airway and vital signs.
* Check biopsy specimens and laboratory forms with another nurse for accuracy.
* Complete all relevant documentation after procedures, and transfer the patient back to the ward with a nurse and hospital attendant.
* Follow policies regarding scope cleaning and processing.
* Record start and finish times for procedures on the PIMS system accurately.
* Adhere to medication management policies, especially regarding DDA’s.

Maintain strict confidentiality of patient and staff information, ensuring records are securely stored and only accessed as part of normal duties.
Qualifications & Experience:
* Registered General Nurse with NMBI.
* Endoscopy qualification is desirable.
* Minimum one year post-registration experience.
* Evidence of ongoing CPD.
