The post holder will work in collaboration with the CNMIII and ADON for Surgical Services, and other members of the inter-professional team to ensure that the preoperative care of patients are efficient, effective, and promote a nurse led service.Primary Duties And ResponsibilitiesAssist the CNM3 and ADON for Surgical Services in patient care to ensure the highest professional standards using an evidence based, care planning approach.Provide a high level of professional and clinical leadership to the point of care staff.Work with the ADONCNM3 AND ADON FOR SURGICAL SERVICES to be responsible for the co-ordination, assessment, planning, delivery and review of service user care by all staff in designated area.Provide safe, comprehensive nursing care to service users within the guidelines laid out by NMBI (Nursing & Midwifery Board of Ireland).Collaborate with service users, family, carers and other staff in treatment / care.Assess, Plan, Implement and evaluate nursing care by personal involvement and supervising the activities of other qualified nurses.To regularly evaluate and monitor patient care and advise by using the hospitals quality systems to ensure that care is delivered.To develop and promote good relationships with patients and carers.To work as an effective member of the multidisciplinary team promoting good teamwork and excellent patient care.To evaluate and further develop the philosophy, objectives and goals of the department.To ensure that all staff are familiar with the use and care of all equipment, and that such equipment is maintained in good working condition.To ensure strict confidentiality of information regarding patients/residents is adhered to.The CNM I willParticipate in and encourage the development of evidence-based practice.Assist in unit audits and data collection.Monitor incident occurrence on the unit. Follow up with the CNM3 and ADON for Surgical ServicesEnsure patient satisfaction surveys are completed and adhere to the KPI.The CNM I willProvide the necessary supervision, co-ordination and deployment of nursing and support staff within the clinical setting to ensure the optimum delivery of care in the designated area through allocating work fairly and competently.Senior clinical point of call for communication to the multidisciplinary team.Responsible for the maintenance of the accreditation standards within the unit and the coordination of staff nurses in the delegation of accreditation tasks.Assist the CNM3 and ADON for Surgical Services in workforce planning including assisting with the roster.Manage all resources efficiently and effectively.Lead on practice development within the clinical area.Assist the CNM3 and ADON for Surgical Services to lead and implement change using lean methodology.Work within a team to contribute to the formulation, development and implementation of policies and procedures at area and hospital level.Actively participate in the Nursing Management structure by supporting the CNM3 and ADON for Surgical Services .Maintain all necessary clinical and administrative records and reporting arrangements.Facilitate nurses in clinical areas to assess, plan, implement, evaluate and document the care of patients within service.Orientate all students and new staff to the unit.Qualifications & ExperienceBe registered, or eligible for registration in the General Division of the live Register of Nurses kept by NMBI.A minimum of three years’ experience as a staff nurse in a surgical setting and preferably one year in a pre-assessment setting is required.It is desirable to have completed a recognised post-registration course in Pre operative assessment care.Display evidence of continuing professional development.Demonstrate an awareness of HR policies and procedures.Working knowledge of Microsoft packages is essential.Will play an active role in the continuous improvement programme in the hospital using lean tools and methodology.Equal Opportunity Statement And BenefitsUPMC is an equal opportunity employer.
